Product Description

The Yamaha HAL7A Headphone Amplifier provides the ultimate in performance and features. This ultra-high-end amplifier has a high slew rate design with floating amplifier stages. There is a built-in high-end DAC by ESS. The DAC has a very accurate master clock.

Next, the casing is designed to prevent vibration. The case also isolates the power transformers from the audio stages. As a result, the audio is clean and pure with a natural presentation. Lastly, there is a good range of digital and analogue inputs. lastly, there are two balanced and one unbalanced headphone outputs.

Floating amplification stages

The balanced architecture of the Yamaha HAL7A Headphone Amplifier features four discrete stages, two for each channel. Both the plus and minus sides of the amplifier are floated off the ground. As a result, the output is super symmetrical and even the non-balanced output sounds superb.

Additionally, the external ground is isolated from the circuit. This means that any mains-borne noise is reduced. This creates a clean and natural-sounding soundstage.

Ultra-high-performance ESS DAC

The DAC in the Yamaha HAL7A Headphone Amplifier is the best available and uses ESS Technology's ES9038PRO converter. Moreover, the chip uses a master clock that has ultra-low phase noise. There is also an eight-channel D/A convertor. As a result, the sound has a wide dynamic range and very low noise. Additionally, no detail is lost, for an involving performance.

A balanced design

All stages of the Yamaha HAL7A Headphone Amplifier after the DAC are balanced. All sections are floating including the volume control and power amplifier. Additionally, even the inputs are converted to a balanced form. As a result, external noise is reduced and the sound quality is enhanced. Lastly, headphones with a balanced input have reduced noise performance, right up to the drivers.

Wide dynamic range

Dynamic range refers to the difference between the quietest passage of music and the loudest. Dynamic range can be compromised by noise breakthroughs in quiet passages and lack of power in loud passages. To mitigate this the Yamaha HAL7A Headphone Amplifier features two oversized toroidal transformers.

As a result, there is no voltage drop even when fully loaded. Moreover, the rigid construction reduces noise and vibration. The low-frequency performance is exceptional as is the overall sound.

Rigid cabinet construction

The L-shaped cabinet construction isolates the power supply from the sensitive audio circuitry. The top surface is made of 8mm extruded aluminium. Additionally, the transformers are mounted on a 2mm thick steel plate. The front panel is also thick and heavy-duty. As a result, vibrations are suppressed and the music is detailed and accurate.

High-resolution audio

The Yamaha HAL7A Headphone Amplifier has several features that enhance high-resolution audio. firstly, DSD files up to 11.2 MHz can be played natively. The ASIO driver ensures the best possible quality with DSD audio. Next PCM high-resolution sources up to 384 kHz and 32-bit are supported. Lastly, transfer is asynchronous for the best jitter performance.

Sound field modes

There are a range of Sound Field modes available with the Yamaha HAL7A Headphone Amplifier. These use the same technology as used in Yamaha’s AV Receivers. The sound modes provide the optimum experience with different sources. For example, Cinema, drama, outdoor live or music video

Good connectivity

The Yamaha HAL7A Headphone Amplifier features an optical, coaxial, and USB digital input. There is also an RCA line input. Next, two Balanced XLR inputs are provided for the left and right inputs. The line inputs feature a pre/lineout switch.

This means that the unit can be used as a preamplifier / DAC combo as well as a headphone amplifier. On the front, there are three headphone outputs, a 4-pin balanced XLR output. A balanced 4.4mm output and a standard 6.3mm output.
