Product Description
Wharfedale Diamond 12.4 speakers are the flagship floorstanders in the Diamond 12 series delivering impactful and room-filling sound ideal for bigger, more powerful sound both in hi-fi and home cinema systems.
Diamond 12.4 employs dual 6.5" Klarity drivers for dynamic but refined mid-range and bass, while the 1” dome tweeter smoothly extends the high frequency range.
Diamond 12 Series
The great value Diamond 12 speakers capture the spirit of your music with authenticity and accuracy no matter what you play. Built in partnership with top loudspeaker designer; Karl-Heinz Fink, the series boasts an industrial contemporary yet distinctly Wharfedale styling and superior acoustic engineering for benchmark sound.
Low-damping surround
Klarity cone is fitted with a low-damping surround for low colouration and expressive power. By simulating cone shapes and adding ribs to reinforce stiffening, a flat response curve was achieved without needing a high-damping surround. The Polypropylene and mica cone material reduces flexing, enabling a lightweight cone with high rigidity, low colouration and ultra-fast response.
Beyond its class
The epoxy/glass fibre-wound voice coil delivers greater power handling and is much stiffer than other types in its price class. A precise magnet structure with aluminium compensation ring minimises the effect of inductance variations as the voice coil travels, preventing the motor system from creating distortion and intermodulation.
Immaculate highs
The 25mm dome's woven polyester film and high-loss coating deliver an open and smoothly extended high frequency spectrum. The magnet system and the front plate are optimised for wide and uncompressed dispersion. The flat front exposes as much as possible of the dome and a very short duct on the front plate balances the acoustic load to improve SPL.
Air-Core Inductors
The crossover network uses an acoustic LKR 24dB topology with premium air-core inductors selected for lowest production of distortion. The magnetic structure of the mid/bass driver compensates for the higher resistance of the coil (compared to standard laminated steel or ferrite core inductors) resulting in fast, clean and distortion-free bass.
Precision-modelled bracing
Opposite walls within the cabinet are connected with a specific form of the wood brace to optimally reduce cabinet resonance. This is Wharfedale's Intelligent Spot Bracing and it has been accurately modelled by computer to upgrade the typical "figure of eight" structures which can cause issues by transferring resonance from one wall to another.
Internal Cabinet Volume
The Diamond 12.4’s rear-ported enclosure is deliberately sized so that the internal 40.8L volume fully compliments the drive unit system for desired audio performance. The resonant properties of the glue between layers was measured to determine the optimum combination. A multi-tiered sandwich design dampens the distinguishable characteristics of the cabinet's sound.
