- Cabinet:
- Time-aligned cabinet geometry introduces microsecond-level time delays between the drivers, ensuring that the effective-acoustic-center of each driver is equidistant from the - listener. The result is improved linearity and directionality throughout the crossover frequencies, and a more accurate soundstage.
- Vertically Aligned Tweeter-Midrange array creates perfect on and off-axis frequency response and blending for clear vocals and the largest possible “Sweet Spot” ensuring transparency and clear vocals at every listening position.
- Dual 6.5” woofers drive deep, accurate bass for the most demanding center-channel content.
- 4.5” midrange driver in a dedicated acoustic-suspension sub-enclosure ensures pristine midrange output and blending with woofers and tweeter.
- Chamfered front baffle and flush-mounted drivers reduce edge diffraction and improve on-axis and off-axis high-frequency response
- Extra-thick 1” (25mm) driver baffle ensures a rigid, resonance-free mounting for all drivers.
- FEA-optimized ¾” (18mm) cabinet construction, extensive bracing, and acoustic insulation eliminate acoustic and structural resonances, ensuring an inert enclosure and an uncolored response, even at the highest drive levels.
Product Description
The SVS Ultra Evolution Centre Speaker is the flagship centre speaker in the range. It is a three-way unit with exceptional clarity and a large dispersion area. The speaker is intended for use with the best home cinema systems. Notably, the unit features a 1” Diamond Carbon-coated tweeter along with a 4.5” midrange driver and a 6.5” woofer.
The rigid tweeter cone delivers stunning highs while the glass fibre woofers create punchy bass. Lastly, most home cinema systems need a centre speaker to make dialogue more intelligible.
Curved baffle for well-timed sound
The drivers of the SVS Ultra Evolution Centre Speaker are mounted in a curved baffle. This improves the timing by placing the drivers at slightly different distances from the listener. As a result, each frequency band arrives at exactly the same time. This creates a single-point source effect. Moreover, the improved phase coherence provides a convincing and immersive sound.
Diamond Carbon coated tweeters for stunning highs
The SVS Ultra Evolution Centre Speaker has a centrally placed tweeter. The Diamond Carbon-coated aluminium dome pushes the high-frequency response beyond the range of human hearing. Moreover, the rigidity of the cone is improved. This also extends the low-frequency response for a better match to the midrange unit.
Additionally, silver Tinsel leads are used for optimum response and low resistance. Finally, the tweeter grill has been redesigned to deliver a sweet and clear sound.
Glass Fibre bass and midrange units for stunning bass
The bass and midrange units in the SVS Ultra Evolution Centre Speaker feature a glass fibre woven cone. They also have a custom surround that delivers a longer peak excursion. Moreover, the improved rigidity of the cone leads to rich effortless bass. The tonal accuracy is also improved.
A quality crossover
The crossover in the SVS Ultra Evolution Centre Speaker uses only the finest components. The crossover splits the audio frequency range into three components for feeding to each individual driver. This is achieved by creating a series of filters using capacitors and inductors.
In the past capacitors had a paper dielectric with a wax coating. Eventually, moisture entered and made them electrically leaky. To mitigate this modern components have a polypropylene dielectric that lasts for decades. Additionally, modern crossovers are computer-modelled for optimal performance.
Advanced cabinet design
The cabinet of the SVS Ultra Evolution Centre Speaker features internal chambers that sit behind the drivers. This isolates them from each other preventing mutual interference. They also have the effect of reducing resonances for a pure and coherent sound. Lastly, the Precision-cast aluminium alloy basket ensures that the motor and cone assembly remain accurately placed.
Why a centre speaker?
Most movie soundtracks are mixed with a centre channel component. This is mainly intended to make dialogue more intelligible. However, the centre channel can also be used for effects. There are also many TV shows and concerts that have a surround sound mix. Without a centre channel speaker, you are missing out.
AV receivers for home cinema systems
The SVS Ultra Evolution Centre Speaker along with the rest of the SVS Ultra Evolution range can be used to create a home cinema system. An AV receiver is needed that has the required decoding capability as well as five or more built-in amplifiers. The simplest setup uses a left and right front set of speakers along with a centre speaker. Additionally, there are usually two rear speakers and often a subwoofer.
