- Tweeter-to-Woofer crossover: 1.8 kHz
- Cabinet:
- Time-aligned cabinet geometry introduces microsecond-level time delays between the drivers, ensuring that the effective-acoustic-center of each driver is equidistant from the listener. The result is improved linearity and directionality throughout the crossover frequencies, and a more accurate soundstage.
- Chamfered front baffle and flush-mounted drivers reduce edge diffraction and improve on-axis and off-axis high-frequency response.
- Extra-thick 1” (25mm) driver baffle ensures a rigid, resonance-free mounting for all drivers.
- FEA-optimized ¾” (18mm) cabinet construction, bracing, and acoustic insulation eliminate acoustic and structural resonances, ensuring an inert enclosure and an uncolored response, even at the highest drive levels.
Product Description
The SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf Speaker is the largest bookshelf speaker in the Ultra range. It features a 1” aluminium dome tweeter and a 6.5” glass fibre composite coned bass/midrange unit. This is also a good speaker for home cinema systems.
As a flagship bookshelf speaker, it delivers reference-quality sound. Notably, it also has a curved front baffle, as do the large tower speakers in the range. This is designed to optimize the timing for a coherent sound. Maximum power handling is 150 watts.
Curved baffle for accurate sound
Each of the drivers in the SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf Speakers sits in a curved baffle. This has the effect of placing the woofer and tweeter at slightly different distances to the listener.
As a result, the phase coherence and timing of each unit is matched, creating a single-point source effect. The sound then has a convincing and immersive presentation. Additionally, the imaging is improved.
Diamond Carbon coated tweeters for stunning highs
The SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf Speaker uses the same 1” Diamond carbon-coated aluminium tweeter as the larger speakers in the range. The aluminium dome has a fine vapour-deposited Diamond carbon layer that improves the rigidity. Consequently, the high frequencies are extended to well above the human hearing range.
This creates an airy presentation. Also, the low-frequency response is improved. This creates a better match with the bass/midrange unit. Lastly, the tweeter grill has been upgraded and has better dispersion characteristics.
Glass fibre composite cone
The SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf Speaker features a 6.5” bass/midrange unit with a glass fibre composite cone. This has a high stiffness that delivers stunning dynamics and flawless tonal accuracy along with punchy bass.
The bass is also improved with a rear-firing, shaped reflex port. Additionally the bass/midrange driver has a Precision-cast aluminium alloy basket that ensures the motor assembly and cones are accurately aligned.
Advanced cabinet and crossover design
The cabinet design of the SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf Speaker features internal chambers that are used to isolate the drivers from each other. As a result, there is no mutual interference or resonance. The sound is uncoloured and accurate. Moreover, the crossover has been upgraded and uses only the best components.
Crossover design
The SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf Speakers are a two-way bass reflex design. The crossover acts like a high pass filter delivering just the high frequencies to the tweeter. The design is computer-modelled to ensure a flat frequency response. Notably, the filter is created using capacitors and inductors.
The capacitors need to last decades, without changing value or going leaky. In the past a paper dielectric was used, this tended to attract moisture, going electrically leaky over time. Consequently, a polypropylene dielectric is now used. This type of capacitor has a very long lifespan.
Who are SVS?
