Product Description
Reloop TurnX turntable is the top-of-th e-range model, sitting above the Turn7, Turn5 and Turn3 models. The deck has a direct drive DC motor that gives very accurate and consistent speeds. Additionally, the high torque motor ensures rapid start ups. Moreover, the turntable has 3 speeds as well as on/off.
These are provided on the same stylish rotary control. The hefty platter is made of solid aluminium, for lots of mass, and the unit comes pre-fitted with an Ortofon 2M blue cartridge. Finally, the universal headshell makes it easy to change to a dedicated 78rpm cartridge.
Precision aluminium body
The precision-machined, 22.5mm thick, die-cast platter is supported by a solid aluminium block. The platter itself weighs in at a massive 2.1kg. Notably, all that mass ensures little speed variation, and the rubber mat isolates the playback surface from any vibration. There is also a damping rubber coating on the back of the turntable.
S shaped balanced tonearm
The S-shaped tonearm is statically balanced and has adjustable height. This allows the cartridges azimuth, and the records vertical tracking angle (VTA) to be set accurately. As a result, the stylus will accurately track the groove. Moreover the tonearm has a precision bearing that offers very free movement, with low drag.
High quality Ortofon 2M blue cartridge
The TurnX has a premium quality Ortofon 2M blue cartridge fitted. This cartridge has excellent dynamics and will please even the most demanding audiophile. Another useful feature is the universal headshell that allows for quick cartridge changes. For example, you could keep a dedicated 78rpm cartridge handy. 78s need a larger stylus tip to play correctly.
A striking piece
The TurnX is a stunning looking turntable. The sleek design features a glossy piano black finish along with a one-button control. The S-shaped tone arm adds a touch of class and the audio performance will exceed the demands of the most demanding audiophile.
The chassis is strong and robust and ensures no resonances can mar the music, additionally the damped rubber feet provide even more isolation. Finally, the TurnX has gold plated RCA connectors as well as a gold plated ground connector.
78 rpm records
The TurnX will run at 78rpm which makes it a great deck for record collectors, who want to digitize or playback their 78rpm shellac records. However, you will need a few things first. Notably, the groove width of 78 records is 3 mil (thousands of and inch), as opposed to 1mil for LP’s and 45s. As a result, you will need the correct stylus tip size. The 2M range from Ortofon has the correct stylus available. Too small a stylus will drag along the bottom of the groove creating excessive surface noise.
Record equalisation
The equalisation used for cutting records was not standardized until 1948. This is known as the RIAA equalisation curve. Records since the have been recorded with the bass cut, to reduce over-modulation of the groove. The treble is also boosted. On playback bass is boosted and the treble cut. This reduces surface noise. Before that 78rpn records were recorded will all kinds of odd equalization.
Digitising records
The Turn3 and Turn7 turntables from Reloop have built in phono preamps and a USB connection. However, you can also use the TurnX to digitise you record collection. Firstly, you will need either an amplifier with a built-in phono preamp or a separate phono stage. The output is then connected to your laptop or PC’s audio input. You can also get external soundcards that will connect via USB. The audio source in your PC should then be set to this input. You can transfer the audio using free audio software such as Audacity.
