Product Description

Quad ESL-2812 electrostatic loudspeakers are an update on the ESL-2805. The ESL-2812 are the latest in a long line of speakers that Quad are possibly best known for, back to the original ESL-57 that made its debut back in 1956.

Improvements over the outgoing model include an upgraded power supply along with a new acoustically transparent grille. We're pleased to say the ESL-2812 improve on the outgoing model where it really matters though, sounding even better and creating their trademark holographic soundstaging beautifully. In addition, they also stand slightly taller, narrower and less deep, making them easier to accomodate, and feature additional wood finishing on the top and sides of the bases.

Quad's patented panel technology results in a combination of the speed and accuracy only possible from an electrostatic loudspeaker; together with the imaging and sound-staging only possible from a theoretically ideal point source; and the coherence and continuity of a single drive unit. With possibly the lowest distortion of any loudspeaker, the ESL can be enjoyed for hours on end without fatigue; never adding or subtracting from the original recording. Even at low volume levels, they retain the full detail and drama of the music.

Key Technology

- Overload safety
- Electrostatic Panels
- Very low distortion elements
- Crossover free sound reproduction

Press Reviews

  • Quad’s electrostatic remains a terrific speaker. In certain sonic aspects it remains unmatched. Generational changes in Quad’s electrostatics have usually followed an evolutionary path, and so it remains with this latest version. Spend a little time with the ESL-2812s and the shortcomings in conventional speakers soon become apparent. Even the best engineered samples sound a little uneven and disjointed, particularly in the midrange. If you value cohesion, insight and unexaggerated smoothness we can’t think of an alternative that does these things better. (What Hi-Fi Magazine)

  • '...the ESL -2812s just blew everything else away' (HI-Fi World Magazine March 2013)

  • ' was a deeply confident and relaxing sound, yet had an insight other loudspeakers could only with for.' (HI-Fi World Magazine March 2013)

  • 'A unique electrostatic with big bass, soft treble and a powerful sound...pinpoint imaging...low colouration... [and] supple bass' (HI-Fi World Magazine March 2013)
