Product Description
The Q Acoustics 5050 Speakers are the flagship of the 5000 range. These floor-standing speakers are endowed with the biggest mid/bass drivers in the range along with a continuous curved cone that has no central cone. The result is better integration with the tweeter and improved bass dynamics.
The low end is also better damped improving the placement options. Both main drivers are 15 cm across. The tweeter is a 25mm unit. Maximum power handling is 150 watts. The cabinet features many innovations including a Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer and point-to-point bracing.
Continuous curved drivers for smooth bass
The continuous curved profile of the Q Acoustics 5050 Speakers combines the best properties of both straight and flared cones. The result is improved dynamic range and punchier bass. However, more motor strength is needed,
Therefore, Q Acoustics uses large voice coils along with stronger magnets. The power handling is increased by 50% over similar drivers. Additionally, the baffle fronts are coated with a layer of butyl rubber and black acrylic trim. This is designed to dampen any vibration.
Premium cabinet design
The cabinet design of the Q Acoustics 5050 Speakers has three key features. Firstly, the tweeter is contained in a hermetically sealed box. This is mechanically isolated from the front baffle. As a result, the internal cabinet pressure does not affect the high-frequency response. Also, any vibration from the bass and mid units does not reach the tweeter.
Next, the cabinets are fitted with four Helmholtz Pressure Equalisers (HPETM) tubes. These are designed to reduce standing waves and colouration. Moreover, point-to-point internal bracing provides a very rigid structure with low resonance.
What is the HPE™ (Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer)?
Taller loudspeakers tend to resonate at a single frequency. As a result, the Q Acoustics 5050 Speakers are fitted with a Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer. This is used, in this case, to reduce cabinet resonance by reducing the overall pressure gradient.
Contemporary design
The contemporary design of the Q Acoustics 5050 Speaker comes in two wooden finishes as well as black and white. Solid aluminium stabilizers are included. These have spikes that can be adjusted from the top. Low-profile speaker connectors allow the speakers to be placed against a wall. Notably, the improved bracing provides a more accurate stereo image.
Key Features
- C3 Continuous Curved ConeTM design in the mid/bass driver ensures smoother high-frequency integration with the tweeter and superior bass dynamics.
- Sophisticated, clean, and contemporary design with dark acrylic baffle motif mirrors the minimalist C3 Continuous Curved ConeTM profile.
- Arrives in four stylish finishes: Satin Black, Satin White, Santos Rosewood, and Holme Oak.
- With a design taken from the Concept series but in new housing, the high-frequency driver is fully hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the front baffle to protect from internal cabinet pressure and resonances from the mid/bass driver.
- Ground-up mid/bass driver design delivers increased power handling.
- Point-2-PointTM (P2P) internal bracing stiffens the cabinet to minimise lower frequency vibrations while focusing on stereo imaging and improving the soundstage.
- Helmholtz Pressure Equalisers (HPETM) reduces internal pressure and standing waves
