Features

Brand Q Acoustics

Product Description

The Q Acoustics 3050c Speaker is the only floor stander in the “C” range. The performance of this flagship speaker is enhanced by two continuous curved cone bass/midrange units. Additionally, the third generation 3000 series from Q Acoustics has a hermetically sealed tweeter.

The seal around the tweeter stops any interference from the other drivers, causing distortion. Next, the continuous curve of the bass/midrange unit makes for a good match with the tweeter's crossover point. Finally, the luxurious cabinet features P2P bracing. The bracing is designed to eliminate any resonances for a smooth sound.

Continuous cone bass/mid-driver

There are two continuous curved coned drivers in the Q Acoustics 3050c Speaker. These provide punchy bass and an accurate midrange. Moreover, the cone’s shape combines the best properties of a straight cone with those of a flared cone.

Additionally, the front baffle is curved. This tends to reduce standing waves and evens out the frequency response. Much research went into developing this cone concept. As a result, it now has improved dispersion and bass extension. Moreover, the enhanced damping allows the speaker to be placed closer to a wall.

Hermetically sealed tweeter

The centrally placed tweeter in the Q Acoustics 3050c Speaker features a hermetic seal. The seal isolates the tweeter and prevents mutual interference from the two bass/midrange units. Notably, there is also a rear-vented chamber that equalizes the internal pressure.

The chamber reduces distortion and lowers the crossover point. As a result, the tweeter is well-matched with the bass/midrange drivers.

Point-to-point braced cabinet

The Q Acoustics 3050c has a striking curved cabinet that uses Q Acoustics proprietary P2P bracing technology. There are aslo Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser tubes. There are no visible joints or fixings and the internal bracing joins together the parts of the cabinet most prone to resonances.

Also, the Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser tubes nullify internal pressure fluctuations. This is designed to improve the frequency response. Lastly, the rigid cabinet design improves the stereo imaging and focus.

Why floor-standing loudspeakers?

Floor-standing speakers such as the Q Acoustics 3050c Speaker are intended for medium to large-sized rooms. They produce more bass than bookshelf speakers and may not need a subwoofer. The main factors when choosing speakers are budget and space.

Floor standers can be more expensive, however when you factor in the cost of stands this is less of an issue. Next is the size of the room. Larger speakers need to breathe and not be too close to a wall. Notably, the Q Acoustics 3050c Speaker has a continuous curved cone. This is designed to mitigate the wall issue.

Volume levels in larger rooms

Larger speakers can be run at a lower power level for the same volume as small speakers. This means that for larger rooms you do not need to drive them as hard. The result is less distortion and a smoother sound.

Lastly, is the question of what you are using them for? Larger floor standers are good for the left and right front speakers in a home cinema system. The smaller speakers in the range can be used as the rear and side surround speakers.
