Product Description

The Puritan Audio PSM1512 Studio Master Purifier is the largest power strip unit in the range with twelve outputs. It is essentially two PSM156 units in one case. This top-of-the range power strip has 94 independently tuned filter elements. Mains filtering is thought to improve the definition of music as well as creating a more dimensional sound stage.

This unit is designed to remove any noise on the mains supply so that no interference can reach your audio equipment. Moreover, the mains sinewave is rebalanced so that no DC component can interfere with transformer efficiency. Finally, the PSM1512 Studio Master Purifier has surge protection and is designed to protect your valuable audio equipment from lightning strikes and other power spikes.

Multi-stage noise filtering

The PSM1512 Studio Master Purifier can have the best level of filtering in the range. Each filter removes noise at a different frequency. The case is also specially designed to shield the wiring from magnetic fields. Next, the wiring uses a balanced design that removes any DC component, stopping transformers from saturating. Moreover, the wiring uses OFC copper for low resistance and good conductivity. Finally, the filters are of two types, created to remove both common mode and differential mode noise.

What is common mode and differential mode noise?

The mains supply can present two kinds of noise to your audio equipment. Common mode noise can be present on both the live and neutral wires. Notably, it flows in the same direction in both wires. Common mode noise is filtered out by using a toroidal choke that has two windings. One for each wire. There is also a capacitor that shorts any high frequency noise to earth. On the other hand, differential mode noise flows in the opposite direction in each wire and needs a different filter arrangement. Differential mode noise is removed by using a capacitor / inductor combination. Each set of filters works at a different frequency.

What is DC blocking?

Most mains supplies have small amount of DC present on them. Even DC as low as 500 millivolts can affect the efficiency of Transformers. Large toroidal transformers are typically used in amplifiers, and any DC will cause them to saturate. This reduces their efficiency. DC on the mains is caused by domestic appliances placing asymmetrical interference on the supply. The PSM1512 Studio Master Purifier uses balancing techniques to remove any DC.

Why, power conditioners?

The mains supply can contain noise from many sources. This can come from both inside and outside the home. Outside interference can come from environmental factors such as thunder storms. Heavy machinery can also put spikes and noise on the line. Additionally, all the miles of wiring act like an aerial. This picks up RFI and other high frequency noise. Hence why the PSM1512 Studio Master Purifier has so many different filters working at different frequencies. Inside the home, the mains wiring is not usually shielded. Therefore, it can pick up noise from Wi-Fi routers as well as smart meters and Smartphones. There is also switching noise, from light switches and domestic appliances. All of this interference can make the sound mushy, with low detail. Upgrade your sound today with a Puritan Audio mains strip.
