Product Description
The PulseEight Tech Tools 1-2 HDMI Splitter and Downscaler will split a 4K signal into two outputs. The signal can also be downscaled to 1080P. Both outputs can be used simultaneously. The maximum resolution is 4K at 60Hz. Moreover, the unit splits off the audio from the HDMI signal. The audio can then be fed to an amplifier or DAC via the analogue or optical digital output. Lastly, there is comprehensive EDID management via the switch on the unit.
About HDMI
HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and was first released in 2002 with version 1.0. It is a digital format that replaced the old analogue connectors such as Scart. HDMI has been upgraded several times and the latest version is 2.1. 2.1 is capable of resolutions up to 8k at 60Hz.
Devices like TVs, game consoles, and Blu-ray players are all connected via HDMI. Notably, the PulseEight Tech Tools 1-2 HDMI Splitter and Downscaler can connect two display devices at the same time. Projectors are also usually connected via HDMI. Lastly, there is a data exchange system named EDID. This enables the display to communicate with the source device.
What is EDID?
EDID stands for Extended Display Identification Data. With this system, the display device, usually a TV or projector, “tells” the source device what its capabilities are. The PulseEight Tech Tools 1-2 HDMI Splitter and Downscaler pass this data through from both connected displays to the source.
The data includes the display's native resolution and other settings such as HDR. As a result, the source will always be providing the optimum settings for the display device.
Audio formats
HDMI supports various audio formats including Dolby Digital as well as DTS and DSD. The PulseEight Tech Tools 1-2 HDMI Splitter and Downscaler is fully compatible with all audio formats. Notably, most audio is fed from the source to the display. However, this can sometimes be the other way around.
For example, A TV may be the source of the audio and needs to be fed to an AV amplifier with HDMI inputs. As a result, HDMI supports ARC or Audio Return Channels.
