Product Description

Pro-Ject Classic Evo Sub-chassis belt-drive turntable features a 9“ carbon and aluminium sandwich tonearm, electronic speed control, precision-balanced aluminium sub-platter and pre-installed Ortofon Quintet Red cartridge.

Classic meets 175 VPO

Classic Evo is derived from the success of the EISA Award winning Classic and the design and build experience accumulated through production of the icon 175 Vienna Philharmonic Opera (VPO) turntable. The key upgrade is the sub-platter which adds design experience gained from the 175 VPO to the performance features of Classic Evo that is rare in this price range.

For enhanced comfort, an electronic speed change switches between 33 to 45 rpm via the push of a button. Compared to the original, Classic Evo is heavier and more rigid with a focus on isolating the platter and tonearm to minimise resonances from the motor and main plinth.

Platter & sub-platter

The robust aluminium main platter uses advanced TPE (Thermo plastic elastomers) for enhancing resonance behaviour. Older designs typically use heavy casted platters which is good for speed constancy and low wow and flutter but causes ringing effects which cloud the sound.

The Classic Evo platter is accurately machined from a special TPE-damped aluminium alloy offering special absorption abilities. The main bearing is similar to that found on the limited edition Vienna Philharmonic turntable. The diamond cut aluminium sub-platter improves tolerances and is exactly machined for top isolation between bearing noise and platter.

Carbon/Alu tonearm

The drastic new Classic tonearm design draws on 25 years of mechanical build expertise. The tonearm tube is constructed from a sandwich of carbon for stiffness and speed and aluminium for improved damping. The bearing is upgraded to the type used on Pro-Ject CC EVO tonearms.

It aids frictionless vertical and horizontal motion for precise tracking across the entire record. The counterweight features a TPE-damper for lowered amplitude of the cartridge resonance frequency by 50%. Typical for Pro-Ject although not the price range, Pro-Ject offers azimuth and VTA adjustment to support a variety of cartridges.

MC Cartridge

As standard, Pro-Ject provide the Ortofon Quintet Red MC cartridge. However, the tonearm's exceptional damping and flexibility grants an effective "middle-heavy" mass making it an ideal partner for any MC cartridge. The Classic is a state of the art turntable so MC cartridge are used to bring out the potential of the player. These are better quality and rarely used at this pricepoint offering an unbeatable price-performance combination.
