Product Description
The Pro-Ject Automat A1 turntable is Pro-Ject's first full automatic model and the first model in their new Automat line.
Handmade in Germany, Pro-Ject have utilised their wealth of experience to set a new standard in automatic turntable design at an affordable price making this one of the best performing budget automatic turntables you'll find.
Fully Automatic
The A1 features a fully automatic start/stop merchanism which is completely disengaged and decoupled during the full runtime of your record. The fully mechanical automatic process is engaged when you press start and the tonearm is automatically moved to the lead in groove on the record. Once playing, the automatics are completely taken out of the equation and do not affect playback quality.
Plug and Play Ready
As with Pro-Ject's higher end turntables, the tracking force and anti-skating are factory pre-set which make the A1 plug and play ready within moments of it being unpacked. This makes it perfect for vinyl beginners and experienced listeners alike allowing you to enjoy Pro-Ject sound quality with the convenience of automatic operation.
33/45 RPM Speed Change
Unlike other turntables, you dont need to change the belt position to play your 45rpm records. Simply change speed with the push of only a single button & listen to your favourite LPs aswell as singles.
Phono Stage Built In
Turntable's require a "Turntable" or "Phono" input on your amplifier or active speakers. However if you don't have a suitable input for your turntable we usually recommend a separate "Phono Stage". However in this case, the A1 turntable features a fully built-in phono preamplifier allowing you to plug it into any normal input. If you prefer to use your own phono stage though, you can easliy switch it off so have that choice.
ULM Aluminium Tonearm
Pro-Ject haven't cut corners with the A1. It features an 8.3” ultra-light-mass aluminium tonearm, which fits Pro-Jects design principles perfectly. Matched with the OM10, we can hear a very fast response and excellent detail in terms of transients and microdynamics.
Ortofon OM10 Cartridge
The A1 is delivered pre-fitted with Ortofon's excellent OM10 cartridge. Its a little-known fact that the OM range have their developmental roots and legacy in ultra-light-mass tonearm designs. This makes it the perfect match for the A1.
Carbon Fibre Reinforced Headshell
This newly designed headshell is made of a carbon fibre reinforced polymer which is super stable and rigid, while keeping the weight super low. The composite material results in excellent internal damping of resonances.
Chassis and Platter
The wood chassis avoids hollow spaces wherever possible, with just enough space to precision fit all the inner workings of the A1. As a result, the chassis’ heavy mass reduces unwanted resonances to a minimum. Matched with a precision balanced aluminium platter, the damping ring on the inside adds weight and reduces resonances. In the last step the platter is turned and precision balanced to receive its fine edges and lowest wow and flutter deviations.
