PLiXiR
PliXiR specialise in mains power conditioners as well as upgraded DC power supplies and cables. They have created a unique power distribution eco-system that uses fully electrically balanced units, designed to deliver very clean and stable power to all types of audio visual equipment in your hi-fi and/or AV system.
The mains supply to most premises is far from perfect and can adversely affect the sound quailty of any audio system, by adding mush and masking detail. PliXiR has created a three step process that reduces noise and interference to negligible levels.
The first step is the Elite range of mains conditioners. These have from two to eight outputs and feature a precision wound isolation transformer that naturally blocks any noise. There is only one primary winding, rather than the multiple windings often found in cheaper transformers. Also, the output is centre tapped to provide a noise-free zero volts reference for the audio signal. The resistance of the windings has to be very precise, as any discrepancy would throw of the balance. The live and neutral wires are out of phase with each other so that when rectified, any noise is effectively cancelled out.
Step two involves replacing the not-very-good DC power supplies that are usually supplied with home audio equipment. There are many such devices including turntables that need a good clean supply and proper grounding to prevent hum loops.
Two earths are better than one. There are actually two earths in most home audio devices. The safety earth is connected to any metal in the unit. Its purpose is to connect the case to earth, so that a massive current flows if it accidentally gets shorted to a live wire. This will them blow the fuse or trip the breaker. The second ground is the zero volts reference used by DC power supplies and audio equipment. these two grounds should be separated and that is the purpose of the transformer in PliXiR power supply units. Finally, the cabling is also specially designed and shielded.
