Product Description
The PLiXiR Elite BDC 15v 6A dual output version, of the PliXiR upgraded PSU, is designed to power both the Chord Hugo TT2 headphone DAC / amplifier and the Chord M scaler. The Elite range of Power supply units will radically improve the noise performance of the connected equipment. Moreover, they have a balanced two stage regulation circuit. The first stage removes the noise while the second preforms accurate regulation. The result is unparralled performance. Construction is rugged, with a CNC machined aluminium case and vibration prevention feet.
High quality casing and premium components
The casing of the Chord M scaler PSU is made of extruded aluminium. It is then precision CNC machined. The casing provides protection for the internal isolation transformer. The 5mm thick aluminium can also prevent mechanical vibration from degrading the sound. Only premium components are used, such as ultra-low-impedance capacitors as well as high current connectors. Construction uses point to point wiring and all the connections are soldered for reliability. Finally the internal cabling uses high purity copper.
Balanced power.
True balanced power requires that every components in the chain be balanced. As a result PliXiR make a range of equipment that fulfils this requirement. Firstly, there is a range of mains conditioners, each with a different number of AC outputs. Secondly, the interconnecting cables are also balanced. Finally the Power units themselves are designed to be balanced and optimised to deliver a clean, low noise supply. This creates the world’s first fully balanced power delivery system, right up to your equipment.
Why balanced power?
The DC power supplies that come with most audio equipment are usually Switch Mode. These are lighter and cheaper to produce than conventional power supplies. However they can generate a lot of noise, that can be introduced into the earth system of a house. Even replacement power supplies are not optimised for noise performance. Noise from the rectifier is not considered, and this gets worse with increased load.
The solution, multistage regulation
PliXiR’s range of DC power supplies have a two stage regulation circuit. The first stage comprises a very low-noise, open loop design, using a discreet class -A driver pre regulator. This filters most of the noise and removes some of the load from the second stage. The second stage is closed loop and uses feedback for the regulation. They say this two stage process, can prevent noise from the mains going upstream, and can prevent noise going in the other direction. Free from noise the regulator circuit can perform optimally. It is designed to have excellent noise performance as well as a high slew rate and a low output impedance under all load conditions.
Balanced performance
The elite DC PSU also has a balanced design. This means that noise is eliminated, and there are no signal ground noise injections by rectifier diodes. In fact, noise is reduced by a half. This type of unit needs a larger transformer, however increased cost is offset by increased performance.
The PliXiR ethos
Often just improving the power supply can make even simple audio equipment sound high-end. The power supply is the life blood of the system and any noise will degrade the sound in profound ways. PliXiR have three main aims, firstly there has to a real fundamental improvement to the sound, secondly, the sound should be neutral natural and pure with no introduced artefacts. Finally, the units need to be reliable, with a long life. The solution was simple, a balanced system. This reduces noise naturally, however balanced supplies are heavy and bulky. These are cost-no-object units and are engineered to provide the world’s first truly balanced system.
