Product Description
Pioneer VSX-LX505 is the top-of-the-range AV receiver from Pioneer. It has more video input options as well as pre-outs for the speaker channels. It also has three zones for different rooms. The amplifier modules can provide 120W per channel. Notably, IMAX enhanced content can be played as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
The sound is optimised with the MCACC room correction system for the best possible sound. Moreover, even if you do not have all the surround speakers, the height virtualizer will provide a similar effect. The most feature packed AV receiver in the Pioneer range, an incredible AV receiver at a very competitive price point.
Next generation gaming technology
The VSX-LX505 is perfect for gamers as it supports the latest HDMI 2.1 standards. The technologies specific to game play include variable Refresh Rate, VRR, and Automatic low latency mode, ALLM. Variable refresh rate is important as games do not provide a stable refresh rate, like movies do. This is due to processor loading. For example, a scene with a lot of movement needs more processing power which slows down the refresh rate, to maybe as low as 30 frames per second. This causes image breakups and glitches. However, some modern TV’s have variable refresh rates that compensate for this. The HDMI 2.1 standard covers this and has to be passed through an AV receiver correctly. Another gaming feature is Automatic low latency mode. This automatically switches the TV into “gaming mode”.
HDMI improvements
Other improvements are provided by HDMI 2.1. One is uncompressed 8K or 4K video transfers at 40Gbps. This is an increase in bandwidth over the previous version. Additionally, there are improvements with bit rates and bit depth ranges, of the chroma signal. Finally, all the HDMI inputs have the previously mentioned Variable Refresh Rates to prevent frame tearing.
IMAX enhanced
Another video enhancement is IMAX Enhanced. This is a format that correctly reproduces titles that are released in this format. For example, there are smaller black bars at the top and bottom of the image as well as other video improvements. As a result, the image is as intended by the film-makers. There are already a number of movies available in this format.
Dolby Atmos compatibility
The VSX-LX505 is fully equipped to make the best of Dolby Atmos encoded material. Dolby Atmos uses multiple channels including height channels to reproduce a 3D soundscape. This AV receiver can accurately reproduce the object-oriented sound demanded by Dolby Atmos, that means sounds crossing overhead should have smooth movement. Moreover, other sound codecs such as PCM and DSD are up-mixed to give this effect. Notably, there is also height virtualization. This creates a Dolby Atmos effect without needing all of the height speakers.
Advanced MCACC auto room correction
The room that you are listening in can have a dramatic effect on the sound of a surround sound system. Furniture and walls can affect the phasing of the signal, reducing the bass and muddying the highs. As a result the VSX-LX505 uses an advanced monitoring system to actively correct the sound. It uses a microphone to monitor and correct any room errors ensuring the best possible sound. Up to nine listening locations can be stored.
Remarkable connectivity
The VSX-LX505 has the most connectivity options of any of the Pioneer receivers, including three listening zones. Digital inputs include coaxial and optical inputs as well as USB. Additionally, there is wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Video inputs have been expanded with an analogue component video input as well as six HDMI inputs and two outputs.
Five RCA analogue inputs include a phono input for a turntable. There is also a bonus built-in AM/FM tuner. An aerial socket is provided on the back for this. Another feature of the receiver is the pre-out section where you can output the surround channels to external amplifiers. Finally, There are convenience features such as a front-mounted HDMI and USB socket.
Voice control
An interesting feature of this receiver is voice control. Hey Google or Alexa can be used to voice control play, stop and skip functions as well as control the volume. Music services supported by Chromecast can be voice controlled by any device that has Google assistant. Moreover, Alexa can be used. As a result, you can voice control the unit without reaching for the remote or a smartphone app.
