Product Description

The Martin Logan Motion F20 Speakers are larger than the F10 model, with bigger bass drivers and more bass extension. It is a good balance between size and performance. The F20 is a floor stander of distinction and features the Martin Logan Gen 2 FMT tweeter for wide dispersion. Detail and clarity are excellent and the woven fiberglass midrange unit delivers clear vocals.

There are also two aluminium coned 6.5” woofers that deliver plenty of punch. Advanced technologies are used to give controlled dispersion and an unparalleled sound. The F20 has a maximum power handling of 300 watts and a frequency range of 35Hz to 25 kHz.

Thin film, folded motion tweeter

The Motion F20 Speakers features an advanced, thin-film Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT). The tweeter has been upgraded with a bigger motor structure. This provides a higher output with less distortion. Furthermore, the waveguide was developed after extensive testing. Over 50 designs were looked at before the current design was chosen.

The waveguide is used to disperse the sound more evenly and is important for phase matching to the other drivers. As a result, the sound arrives at the same time as the midrange and bass drivers. This also minimises room reflections and gives a wider dispersion pattern than conventional tweeters.

Woven fibreglass midrange

The F10 midrange unit is made of woven fibreglass. This is both lightweight and strong. The midrange can easily keep pace with the Gen 2 tweeter and aluminium bass units. Vocals and dialogue are clear and lifelike. The midrange is important as it contains the human voice range, which is 300Hz to 3000kHz. Notably, the Motion F20 Speakers crossover frequency is at 2600 Hz, at the upper end of the vocal range.

Dual Aluminium woofers

The F10 has two 6.5” aluminium domed woofers. The woofers also have oversized motor structures. The aluminium cones prevent breakups at high audio levels. There is also a bottom firing bass port. The bass port extends the low frequency response down to 35Hz. Moreover, the bass port is not on the rear of the unit. This allows the Motion F20 Speakers’s to be placed close to a wall, without booming.

Fast outrigger feet

The Motion range of floor standers all feature outrigger feet. The widely spaced feet help with stability on any surface. Moreover, they come with rubber feet or spikes. Both of which can be levelled. The feet provide anti-vibration properties that reduces the transfer of energy to the floor. As a result, boominess is reduced and other equipment in the room, such as turntables, are isolated from sound pickup.

Martin Logan today

Martin Logan were founded in the late 1970’s and are renowned for their top performing electrostatic speakers. This type of speaker can provide the best possible sound. However, they were difficult to develop. For example, originally the diaphragm was made of animal intestine and tended to disintegrate at high volumes. Moreover, they suffered from a “beaming” effect, where the sweet spot for the listener was very narrow. As a result the curvilinear shape was developed. Martin Logan electrostatic speakers are curved to give a wider dispersion. The advanced materials technologies developed for electrostatic speakers, are also used in the conventional Motion range of speakers.
