Product Description

The Martin Logan Foundation F1 Speakers have a slightly smaller footprint than the flagship F2’s. However, they have the same power handling and exceptional high-frequency response. This is due to the Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter.

Just under the tweeter sits an aluminium coned midrange unit. Lower down are three 6.5mm aluminium coned woofers for stunning bass performance. The tweeter also features a folded motion waveguide for well-dispersed high frequencies. Lastly, two rear-firing bass ports lower the frequency response down to 41Hz.

Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion Tweeter S for nuanced sound

Using technology developed for their top-of-the-line electrostatic range the Martin Logan Foundation F1 Speakers feature a Gen2 FMT S tweeter. The thin film diaphragm is folded to provide a greater surface area. It also has a low mass and excursion. Consequently, this provides a fast response and a sound with stunning detail and clarity.

Folded Motion Waveguide for wide dispersion

To increase high-frequency dispersion the Martin Logan Foundation F1 Speakers feature a folded motion waveguide. This surrounds the tweeter and is used to direct the sound to the listener. As a result, detail is enhanced and room reflections are minimized.

Aluminium Midrange & Bass Drivers

Under the tweeter sits a 5.5” midrange unit. This has a concave aluminium cone. There are also three 5.5” bass drivers of a similar design. Aluminium cones are designed to be lightweight and have a low mass. Moreover, the basket is also made of cast aluminium.

Behind each driver is an asymmetrical chamber. This helps to isolate the drivers from each other, preventing mutual interference. An advantage of multiple woofers and two bass sports is the low-frequency extension. This goes as low as 41 Hz with the F1.

McCracken-Vojtko Crossovers

A McCracken-Vojtko crossover design features in the Martin Logan Foundation F1 Speakers. This was further developed by Martin Logan and has been tuned for optimum performance. As a result, distortion is reduced and there is a well-balanced sound.

Crossovers split the sound into different bands for feeding to the respective drivers. The design has to result in a flat frequency response. Another important factor is the capacitors used. These need to resist leakage and not change value over time.

A quality-tuned cabinet

The Martin Logan Foundation F1 Speakers have two rear-firing bass ports for amazing low frequencies. Moreover, the cabinet is made of anti-resonance materials that provide a firm foundation for the drivers.

The rear chamber prevents mutual interference and the cabinets have adjustable spiked feet for levelling. Additionally, rubber covers are available for hard floors.

Martin Logan thin film technologies are used for the tweeter

The tweeters in the Martin Logan Foundation F1 Speakers are inspired by Martin Logan's experience with electrostatic speakers. Exotic materials were pioneered for the drivers. These include thin film technologies for the diaphragms. The Gen2 FMT S folded motion tweeter has a folded diaphragm and brings this technology into a more affordable product. As a result, the speaker has great clarity and realism.
