The Marantz AMP10 16-Channel Power Amplifier is a high-end sixteen-channel amplifier that is designed to go with the Marantz AV10 processor. It has the utmost performance and will form the backbone of a reference standard home cinema system.
The unit is intended to be used to create a 9.1.6 Dolby Atmos home cinema system. Each balanced input feeds a 200-watt Class D amplifier. The stylish design has been meticulously crafted and the sound is warm and lush. Dolby Atmos creates an immersive 3D sound field for the ultimate in-movie sound.
Powerful Class D amplifiers
Marantz developed custom Class D amplifiers for the Marantz AMP10 16-Channel Power Amplifier. These provide 200 watts per channel and can be bridged for even more power. Originally amplifiers were Class A designs.
However, this method is very inefficient and power-hungry. Class D is up to 90% efficient and is used where space is at a premium. It would be virtually impossible to have sixteen high-powered amplifiers in a small space otherwise.
Top quality connectivity
Connectivity is relatively simple. However, to reduce noise pickup on the many connecting leads the Marantz AMP10 16 Channel Power Amplifier is a balanced design. Each input has a balanced XLR connector as well as standard RCA connectors.
Also, each speaker’s output has its own set of terminals. Balanced leads were developed for studio use and have extra wires that are used to invert the phase of each signal on each wire. This has the effect of cancelling out any noise.
Stylish design
The Marantz AMP10 16-Channel Power Amplifier is meticulously crafted and made of the best materials. As a result, it has a stunning performance and a rich warm sound. Moreover, the front panel features a power meter and subtle lighting that can be turned off.
Why a sixteen-channel amplifier?
Sixteen channel amplifiers are designed for Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 home cinema systems. The numbering system refers to eight standard speakers that surround the listener, a centre speaker for dialogue, a subwoofer, and six ceiling speakers.
This creates an immersive 3D sound field for movies and surround-encoded music. Each speaker needs a separate amplifier, hence the Marantz AMP10 16-Channel Power Amplifier. However, this is not a complete system and needs a Dolby Atmos processor such as the Marantz AV10 AV processor.
What is Dolby Atmos?
Dolby Atmos was originally. developed for cinemas However it is now available in the home using the Marantz AMP10 16 Channel Power Amplifier and the Marantz AV10 AV processor. Dolby Atmos can have up to sixteen speakers depending on the size of the room.
Each channel can have sound “objects” such as aircraft engine noise placed anywhere in the 3D sound field. The sound can then be panned overhead using the ceiling speakers. Certain movies have a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and this has to be decoded using a processor unit such as the Marantz AV10 AV processor.
