Product Description
The Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier is a high-end multifunctional amplifier with a wide range of inputs. It uses Luxman's LIFES amplifier Feedback engine for a natural sound quality.
Additionally, there is an electronic volume control that will not wear with age. Unusually for an integrated amplifier there is an MC capable phono stage. Other features include two headphone outputs as well as two sets of speaker terminals. Lastly, the power supply has been upgraded with large reservoir capacitors and a massive transformer.
Luxman LIFES feedback engine
Feedback is used in amplifiers to reduce the gain and distortion. Negative feedback also tends to increase the stability and bandwidth. However negative feedback can result in a slightly less than natural sound. As a result, Luxman has developed the Luxman Integrated Feedback Engine System.
This obviates some of the disadvantages of negative feedback by not feeding back any of the musical input signals to the main amplifier. Many listening tests have been performed to tune the feedback circuit. The output stage uses parallel bipolar transistors in a Class AB configuration.
Electronically controlled volume
The volume control of an amplifier is important with regards to channel balance as well as the deterioration of sound quality with age. The Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier uses a nonmechanical system and no drive motor is needed to perform remote volume operation.
There are also no noisy potentiometers to deal with. Luxman has developed an electronic volume control named LECUA that uses an integrated circuit. This has 88 steps and is driven by a large volume knob that has a good feel and smooth operation. Remote volume control and balance are also performed by the IC.
Improved input buffer circuit
A preamp section is provided by most integrated amplifiers. This boosts the input signal to a level that best serves the power amplifier sections. The Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier is fitted with a discrete buffer stage that maintains the fidelity of delicate music signals.
The stage also provides more driving energy to the power amplifier. Moreover, another electric switch is used for the input selection. This will not go noisy with age and maintains good separation and crosstalk performance.
High-quality phono input stage
The Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier comes with a moving coil-capable phono preamp. Moving magnet cartridges have an output of around 5mV and can be used with most phono stages. However, moving coil cartridges require a more sensitive preamp as their output can be well below 1mV. As a result, the Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier features a carefully designed low noise high gain MC stage.
High-capacity power supply
The power supply in the Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier needs to be able to handle high-power transients without any voltage drops. As a result, it uses a large 540VA EI transformer. There are also four custom-made 10,000MF reservoir capacitors. These store a lot of energy as well as reduce ripple. As a result, power is stable and instantly available.
Laree backlit VU meters
The large white LED backlit VU meters fitted to the Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier show the power output in dB. They are highly visible and accurately follow the music. Additionally, there is a 7-segment LED display that shows the volume level. This can be seen from across the room. The meter lighting and LED display can be controlled from the supplied remote control.
Dual headphone output
The Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier is fitted with two front-mounted headphone outputs. There is a standard 6.3mm socket as well as a 4.4mm output. The 4.4mm output has two independent unbalanced amplifiers with separate wiring. This improves channel separation as well as reducing crosstalk.
Good connectivity
Two sets of speaker terminals are provided on the Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier. There are also front-mounted bass, treble, and balance controls. A switch is provided for MM or MC cartridges. A large knob also selects the input.
Four RCA line-level inputs are provided along with a phono input. Lastly, there are two balanced Din inputs available. Lastly, trigger inputs are available for remote switching of other equipment
