Product Description

Klipsch The Nines McLaren active speakers combine two great innovators – Klipsch and McLaren, to create these stunning active speakers. Paul W Klipsch founded the great audio company, while Bruce Mclaren founded one of the most innovative car companies.

A classic feature of Klipsch speakers is the horn tweeter, and The Nines Mclaren edition is no exception in using one. The edge-to-edge tractrix horn provides a very efficient transfer of high frequency sounds. Making the treble sweet and clear.

There is also a new bass driver and a powerful bi-amped class D amplifier. Finally, the Klipsch connect app means that you can control the volume remotely as well as save pre-set levels.

New 8” bass driver and titanium tweeter

The tweeters feature a 1” titanium dome as well as the renowned Tractrix horn. Additionally, The Nines Mclaren feature a new high excursion bass driver. This is driven by a powerful amplifier. In fact, there are two separate amplifiers, one for the treble and one for the bass. There is also Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to optimise the sound. The result is a lot of power in a small space. There is also a rear-firing bass port.

Powerful class D amplifiers

The Nines McLaren outperforms most active speakers in their class. The built-in amplifiers deliver 240 watts in total for stunning sound, placing them in pole position. In contrast to linear amplifiers that use bipolar transistors which are power hungry and generate a lot of heat, Class D amplifiers are nearly 90% efficient. Class D feature high speed MOSFET output transistors. The transistors are either fully on or fully off making them very powerful and efficient. They are favoured in active speakers as they are physically small and do not need massive heatsinks.

Versatile connectivity

The Nines McLaren also have excellent connectivity. You can stream via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. There is also a digital optical input as well as an analogue 3.5mm input. They also have the latest HDMI-ARC connection for premium sound from your TV. That allows you to run only one cable from your TV, with no AV receiver required. These speakers also have subwoofer output - just connect a subwoofer for extreme bass.

Dynamic bass and custom app

These active speakers feature dynamic bass. This dynamically adjusts the bass depending on the volume level, boosting it at lower volumes. The Klipsch 'connect app' can be installed on any device and allows you to tailor the sound, depending on speaker placement. You can also control the volume and save pre-set levels.

Custom Mclaren livery

Every detail of The Nines Mclaren has been inspired by Mclaren. From the colour of the metal grilles to the Number 5 on the side. This is from the 1959 winning Cooper T45 he drove. The cabinet is handcrafted from real wood veneer and they have new threaded inserts on the base. This allows the use of speaker stands. Cork pads are included that go in the inserts. There is also a special edition book that celebrates the partnership of Klipsch and Mclaren.

Who are Klipsch?

The Klipsch company was founded in 1946 and initially made Klipschhorn speakers. These were designed to be used in a corner and had a horn speaker. Paul W Klipsch had developed the idea of horn speakers before the war. They proved to be more efficient than coned speakers. As a result Klipsch have specialized in horn speakers ever since.

1957 saw Klipsch make the world’s first commercially produced centre speaker, for dialogue. This is known as the Heresy speaker and is still produced today. The company now make a wide range of speakers and soundbars, including active speakers and the heritage range.
