Product Description

The Kendal 2C centre speaker is a part of the Kendal Mk 2 range. There is also a Kendal 2S surround, stereo speaker pair as well as the Stratton 12 subwoofer, in the range. This substantial unit is 24” wide and features dual 6.5” bass drivers, a 3” midrange unit, and a 1” tweeter. The quality unit is hand-crafted in Canada using only the best components. Moreover, The tweeter has ferrofluid cooling and a titanium dome while the bass units have butyl rubber surrounds. Finally, there are two bass ports on the rear, for an extended bass response.

Titanium domed 1” tweeter

The Kendal 2C centre speaker has a high-efficiency 1” titanium domed tweeter. Additionally, it has a ferrofluid-cooled ceramic motor structure for improved linearity and a smoother sound. The titanium dome resists breakup at high power levels. Moreover, the liquid-cooled motor wicks away heat.

Aluminium basket, mid and bass drivers

The Kendal 2C centre speaker mid and bass units have lightweight, non-resonant die-cast aluminium baskets with cones with Butyl rubber surrounds for good power handling and efficiency. There are also dual ports at the rear of the unit. This is known as a bass reflex system and helps to boost the ultra-low frequencies. Finally, the crossover features a custom design that uses premium iron core inductors and long-lasting Mylar capacitors.

A quality cabinet

The cabinet features only the finest furniture-grade wood veneers that are harvested from sustainable forests. Moreover, the 3/4” MDF enclosure is structurally reinforced to prevent resonances. The Kendal 2C centre speaker also has powder-coated 6MM heavy-duty steel outrigger feet to isolate the unit so that it does not affect other components. There are also decoupling spikes. Another feature of the cabinet is the sloped corners these are designed to dissipate standing waves.

Why a centre speaker?

Most movie soundtracks are mixed with a centre channel in mind. The centre channel usually carries dialogue. However, it can also be used for effects. Most cheaper centre speakers only have one driver. Therefore, it is unusual for the centre speaker to be a three-way design, as with the Kendal 2C centre speaker. This is designed to help with detail and the impact of effects. Historically a centre channel was first used in movie theatres as early as 1940, with Walt Disney's Fantasia.
