KEF Kube 8 MIE Subwoofer

The KEF Kube 8 MIE Subwoofer is the most compact in the four-strong Kube range. All of the subwoofers are enhanced by the use of the Music Integrity Engine. This provides exceptional depth and dynamics. There are Kube sizes for every room as well as multiple connection options. There are also various room EQ options. As a result, they perform well wherever you place them.

300 Watts of Class D power

The KEF Kube 8 MIE Subwoofer features a powerful 300-watt Class D amplifier. Class D is a digital method of amplification. As a result, it uses less power and generates less heat than conventional Class A/B amplifiers. In fact, Class D is close to 90% efficient and is often used in confined spaces such as speaker cabinets. The output consists of a stream of square pulses that are modulated by the music. The closer together the pulses are the greater the volume.

KEF music integrity engine

KEF has designed a Music Integrity Engine that optimizes the sound. As a result, the audio of the KEF Kube 8 MIE Subwoofer is perfectly timed and has a tighter sound. The Music Integrity Engine uses a set of Digital Signal Processing algorithms that constantly adjust the sound for the best results. Moreover, the cabinet is sealed so that the unit can be placed in a cabinet. There are different room EQ settings for wall, in-cabinet, in-room, or in a corner.

Multiple power modes

The KEF Kube 8 MIE Subwoofer can be turned on by multiple methods. The first is auto-on. This detects an input signal and then turns on. It will then power off again after a period of inactivity. Next, there is a trigger input that can be used so that the main amplifier will turn the unit on at the same time that the amplifier is powered up. Lastly, you can leave the unit powered up continuously.

Wireless connection kit

The KEF Kube 8 MIE Subwoofer has a versatile range of inputs. It also has a wireless connection kit available. This allows installation without any trailing cables. Some controls make it easy to integrate the unit with your main speakers and room environment.

Connecting a subwoofer

Subwoofers have many different ways of being connected to an amplifier or AV receiver. Notably the KEF Kube 8 MIE Subwoofer has versatile input options. For example, older amplifiers without a subwoofer output can be connected to the speaker-level inputs.

Often, amplifiers will have a second set of speaker outputs that can be used. On the other hand, AV amplifiers will have a dedicated output for a subwoofer. This can be connected via an RCA lead to the KEF Kube 8 MIE. Some AV amplifiers also have an LFE or Low-Frequency Effects output that can be fed to a second subwoofer.

Setting up a subwoofer

Once connected there are a few things to set up. One is the phase switch. Set this so that the bass is boosted. If this does not match your main speaker's phasing the bass may be reduced. Secondly, there is a low pass filter that should be set by ear, to match the cut-off frequency of your main speakers.
