Product Description

JBL L52 Classic gloss black limited edition speakers have received a contemporary upgrade with a new black gloss finish. This is featured around the entire cabinet and is matched with new black Quadrex grilles with gold lettering. This sophisticated new look brings the L52 into the modern age.

The L52 is a two-way bookshelf design in a smaller package than the L82 Classic and L100 Classic models. It also has a high frequency attenuator control. The Classic range has been constantly improved since 1970 and this special edition is only available for a limited time.

JBL Classic Story

The L100 Classic, L82 Classic and L52 Classic are reimagined versions of 1970s classics and continued the styling of the 1970s originals but were updated with the latest design techniques and drivers for better sound quality, while maintaining the spirit of the originals. They have been out for several years now and all feature a walnut finish with option of black, orange or blue grilles.

This Classic series was very popular, but the retro look with walnut cabinets and brightly coloured grilles were not to everyone's taste. Consequently, the black edition appearance adds a new dimension. The modern look maintains the heritage of the classic series while bringing them bang up to date. The high gloss finish is very labour intensive to create but add a touch of class. A further enhancement is the gold labelling. This is exclusive to the special edition as is the black Quadrex foam grille.

JBL Story

JBL are based in the U.S and was founded by James B lancing. In the 1930’s Radio was booming and JBL made 6” and 8” speakers for radio sets. They also made larger speakers for luxury console models and radiograms. The depression limited sales and by the 1950’s television had been added to the mix. Millions were made and all needed speakers.

The 1950’s also saw the development of the first 4” high frequency compression driver. Additionally the famous “bullet” tweeter came out. This was also known as the 075 Ring Radiator Driver. Another 1950’s development was the use of JBL speakers in the renowned Fender guitar amplifiers.

In the 1970’s JBL entered the professional market with studio monitors. They also pioneered the use of titanium for tweeter domes. A light and rigid material that resists warping. Additionally, there was a need for better PA speakers and JBL offered the Cabinet series that rapidly became the speaker of choice for musicians, clubs and churches. Today they continue to innovate with the special edition black Classic range.
