Product Description
JBL 4329P studio monitor active speakers are an all-in-one speaker system which are compact as well as powerful and offer some great streaming options for enjoying a range of music. These are a bigger version of JBL’s first active speaker, the 4305P. They feature dual amplifiers with 250W going to the bass unit and 50W going to the tweeter. Connectivity is good with USB as well as optical digital inputs. Streaming services include Google Chromecast, as well as Apple and Bluetooth. Available in natural walnut real wood veneer or black walnut veneer finishes.
Powerful amplifier and drivers
The JBL 4329P Studio Monitors have a powerful 300W amplifier. There are actually two amplifiers with 250W going to the woofer and 50W going to the tweeter. Most active speakers in this power range use class D amplifiers. These are more efficient and generate less heat than conventional linear amplifiers. The output is a PCM signal that is either fully on or fully off. Hence the increase in efficiency. They also tend to have a smaller form factor than linear amplifiers.
Drivers
The drivers are an 8” cone woofer and 1” compression tweeter. A compression driver is a specialised diaphragm loudspeaker that creates the sound in a horn loudspeaker. The JBL 4329 speakers use a horn tweeter, which can be many times more efficient than conventional tweeters. JBL also use Differential Drive technology, This gives better heat dissipation as well as lower power consumption for a given output power. The drivers have a higher dynamic range than conventional speakers. Moreover, an aluminium shorting ring greatly reduces nonlinear distortion.
Great connectivity
There is a wide range of input options such as USB, optical digital and 3.5mm stereo connectors. There is also an XLR or 1/4” TRS input for balanced or unbalanced speakers. The speakers can be used as monitors or in the home. The USB socket can be used to connect to an external drive. Optical digital inputs provide the best audio quality and use a fibre-optic cable to connect audio components.
Digital signal processing
Wi-Fi and Ethernet are built in along with Google Chromecast, Apple Airplay 2 and Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX. The built in DAC can decode up to 24-bit/192kHz hi-res audio as well as MQA. The speakers are also Roon ready. AptX HD is a hi-res Bluetooth format that has been around since 2016. It was developed by Qualcomm and supports hi-res audio with near CD quality. MQA stands for Master Quality Assured and is a studio quality format that has a “flag” that confirms that it is an authentic studio file.
Who are JBL?
JBL has been manufacturing speakers for almost one hundred years. In the 1930’s JBL specialised in radio speakers. Many innovations followed and JBL are still known for their loudspeakers today. Their latest range includes a range of updated legacy-style models as well as more contemporary designs.
