Product Description
The Elipson Horus 8S subwoofer is a perfect addition to the Horus 6B bookshelf and Horus 11 floor-standing speakers. It will extend the low frequencies down to 33 Hz, for thundering bass. Moreover, the small form factor will fit in with any décor. The unit is also a good match for any stereo or surround sound system. A 20cm cellulose pulp membrane woofer is accompanied by a downward-firing passive radiator and the class D amplifier provides an output of 150 watts.
150-watt Class D amplifier
Most active speakers and subwoofers, like the Horus 8S subwoofer, use Class D amplifiers. These are more efficient than linear amplifiers. Class D amplifiers are essentially digital, with the output consisting of a series of pulses. This is known as Pulse Code Modulation (PCM). The digital nature of the circuit also makes them pick up less noise. Moreover, they are more compact and generate less heat than conventional Class A/B amplifiers.
Passive radiator and 20cm driver
The woofer is a 20cm unit with a reinforced cellulose pulp membrane. Both passive and active drivers have excellent power-handling capabilities. The bass is responsive and deep with a selectable cut-off of 40 Hz to 200 Hz. There is an auto on/off that when set to on will turn the unit on when there is a sound source present.
Connectivity and connecting a subwoofer
The Horus 8S subwoofer has two RCA line level inputs with the left one being also for LFE, Low Frequency effects. Therefore, it is designed to go with AV amplifiers that have a subwoofer output. Additionally, it can be used with a conventional amplifier with a preamp or tape loop output. There is a phase switch that should be set to produce the most bass output with your system. The back also features a volume control and a control for the crossover frequency.
