Product Description
Audiolab 6000N Play brings hi-res wireless streaming to the renowned 6000 range. It uitlises DTS Play-Fi technology so you can stream your favourite content in outstanding quality from any compatible device. This is the brand's first standalone streamer, and with built in DAC and multi-room capabilities, it's flexibility is a great upgrade to your home audio.
High Quality D/A Converter
The 6000N Play Streamer permits use with digital devices unlike its costliee, analogue-only brother. The high-quality in built digital to analogue converter lets you connect to digital sources without the need for an external DAC.
Its isolated power supply is adopted from the award winning 6000 CDT and features a plethora of connectivity options such as digital and analogue outputs and Wi-Fi connectivity. Wired Ethernet connection is available for apps requiring high bandwidth.
Digital Circuitry
Much effort is expended in the physical layout of 6000N’s circuitry to deliver the quality that would be expected of a top-performance standalone DAC. The ES9018 Sabre32 Reference chip family is employed for D/A conversion, utilising 32bit HyperStream structure and Jitter Eliminator to produce super-low noise and superior dynamic range. The degree of acoustic expression mined by this chip from the digital signal is captivating.
DTS Play-Fi App
On top of supporting 24 bit/ 192kHz high-res, multi-room and DLNA wireless streaming from networked devices, the purpose-built app grants direct access to popular streaming services such as Amazon Music, HD Tracks, Spotify, Tidal, Deezer and Sirius XM. This just arrived yesterday and is now connected to my Naim Nait 5Si amp and Wharfedale Evo 4.2 speakers. It sounds absolutely wonderful. Loads and loads of detail but without any harshness, very musical. I have it wired using Ethernet so haven't tried the wi-fi option.
Previously I'd been using a Chord Mojo and an iPhone and I reckon this is quite a bit better sounding (+ a million times easier to use). The sound stage is a little recessed but is much more 3D sounding with precise instrument location and "space". I was thinking about stumping up another £350 for the Cambridge Audio CXN V2 streamer but given lack of Amazon support I figured I'd try this one. Can't really see that it can be much better sounding...
The DTS PlayFi app has shown a few niggles (I primarily use it with Amazon Music for UHD content, there is increasingly more of it about). A few times the search mechanism has got screwed up and you need to shutdown and restart the app to recover from it. But apart from that it works fairly well. -

Fantastic value for money streaming solution. Matches my 6000A amplifier perfectly. Simple app, really nice. Award winner too.
