Product Description

The Dali Oberon Grand Vokal is part of the Dali Oberon range of active speakers. It is a full-range centre speaker intended for large rooms. The speaker features two upgraded 180mm SMC-based woofers as well as an oversized 29mm tweeter. The tweeter has an ultra-lightweight soft dome. The large cabinet helps to deliver undistorted dialogue, sound effects, and music. Finally, two 50-watt class D amplifiers are used to drive the LF and HF units separately.

A dynamic and lifelike sound

The Dali Oberon Grand Vokal can provide exceptional clarity, precision, and dynamics. It is designed to go with the floor-standing model speakers in the Oberon range and will create a seamless movie and gaming experience. The two 180mm bass/midrange drivers have large and powerful ferrite magnets that can generate very high sound levels. Vocals and sound effects are designed to be larger than life. Moreover, having the bass/midrange units on opposite sides of the tweeter gives a wide dispersion pattern.

Reduced distortion with Soft Magnetic Compound speaker magnets

The Oberon range, including the Oberon Grand Vokal, uses Dali’s patented (SMC) Soft Magnetic Compound technology. The 180mm bass/midrange units have electrically nonconductive elements in the magnet structure. This is designed to significantly reduce the effect of several distortion-causing issues present with moving coil drivers. Examples include eddy current effects, magnetic hysteresis, and the variation of voice-coil inductance caused by its movement in the magnet gap. These features are particularly suited to active speakers, such as the Oberon 7C or Oberon 1C as well as the Oberon Grand Vokal.

Lightweight soft dome tweeter

The Dali Oberon Grand Vokal features a 29mm tweeter that is made of damped textiles. The soft dome is oversized and lightweight. As a result, the sensitivity and power handling are enhanced. The tweeter can operate at lower frequencies than smaller tweeters. This gives more flexibility in the crossover design.

Powerful class D amplifiers

The Dali Oberon Grand Vokal is a two-way speaker system and uses two 50-watt closed-loop Class D power amplifiers. These are optimised to give the best sound quality and dynamic ability. The tweeter is driven by one amplifier while the other drives the two bass/midrange units. Moreover, the 100dB signal-to-noise ratio ensures that no noise is present even during quiet passages. Class D amplifiers are digital devices and use less power than linear amplifiers. They are claimed to be over 90% efficient and generate little heat. Class D amplifiers have an output that consists of a series of pulses. This is known as PCM or Pulse Code Modulation. The output transistors are fast-switching MOSFETS that are either fully on or fully off. This provides a very efficient system.

Why centre speakers?

Centre speakers are primarily designed for surround sound systems that are driven by an AV amplifier. Films and games are mixed with several channels of audio including a centre dialogue and effects channel. Watching movies without a centre channel can lead to muffled dialogue and less accurate placing of special effects.
