Product Description
Creek 4040 CD is a purist CD player released at the same time as the 4040 A amplifier. 4040 CD follows in the footsteps of many excellent Creek CD players and is a perfect match for the 4040 A or indeed within any good hi-fi system.
Creek CD Players Over Time
Creek released their first CD player in 1990, the highly regarded CD60. Over time they have released other excellent models including the Evolution 50CD and more recently the. The Voyage CD player. So much care and attention has gone into the design of the 4040 CD that Mike Creek says it is just as much of an important milestone for their range as the original CD60.
CD Listening
Many feel that well recorded CD can still provide high quality sound equal to most streamed music and native 16-bit 44.1kHz is more than sufficient for most music and is not compressed - in contrast to many streaming services that use some type of compression.
Additionally, many listeners still want to play their CDs directly and enjoy the cover art and liner notes, rather than rip them to a storage device. There has even been more talk recently of younger listeners who have grown up with streaming discovering CDs as a tactile format.
Could CD be in for a resurgence following the renewed popularity of vinyl? Either way, CD offers a physical way to listen to music that you own and can hold in your hands, in a more convenient size than vinyl. It makes sense for Creek to release a player to match the 4040 A, allowing you to enjoy the best possible sound from your CD collection.
Purist and Simple
The 4040 CD matches the 4040 A in size and is designed to get the best possible sound from your CDs without unnecessary features and anything else getting in the way of the signal path.
This CD player can be controlled via the simple buttons on the front panel or via the remote control.
Internal DAC
4040 CD features an excellent internal DAC for convenient connection to your amplifier, however for the best possible performance - Creek recommends connecting directly to the 4040 A by optical cable to take advantage of the excellent ES9018K2M ESS Sabre32 Reference DAC in the 4040 A.
Standby Power Saving
Just like 4040 A, the 4040 CD powers down non-essential circuitry and goes into standby mode when not in use to save power. The time to standby can be adjusted in the menu settings.
