Product Description

The Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 Subwoofer is an upgrade on the ASW608 with a long throw 10” woofer. The output is 200 watts and the hybrid cone is rigid for remarkable accuracy. Additionally, you can connect this woofer to most types of amplifiers. Controls include a low-pass filter and phase switch. Add more powerful and accurate bass to your speaker system for a rich, punchy sound.

Use with any type of amplifier

The speaker level input of the Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 Subwoofer allows the unit to be used with older amplifiers. The speaker-level inputs use binding posts while the line-level inputs are RCA connectors. Moreover, there are individual volume controls for each input. Other controls include a low pass filter setting and a bypass switch. Lastly, there is a bass roll-off alignment setting, and the unit will auto-sense content and turn on.

Powerful amplifier

The Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 Subwoofer uses a Class D amplifier. These generate less heat and occupy less space than conventional Class A/B amplifiers. Moreover, they are almost 90% efficient. Class D uses MOSFET output transistors that can switch at high speed. That is because the output consists of a series of high-frequency pulses. This is known as Pulse Width Modulation or PCM. As a result, the amplifier delivers 200 Watts with low distortion and great accuracy.

Connecting a subwoofer

Connecting a subwoofer can be problematic with older amplifiers, as most subwoofers only have a line-level input. However, the Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 Subwoofer has speaker-level inputs that can take a feed directly from the amplifier’s speaker connectors.

There is also a line-level input for connecting to AV amplifiers that have a subwoofer or Low-Frequency Effects output. The LFE channel carries an extra-low special effects signal. Moreover, some AV amplifiers may have more than one subwoofer output.

Using the subwoofer settings

Various settings are used to match the Bowers & Wilkins ASW610 Subwoofer to your main speakers. The bass should complement the sound without overpowering it. The phase switch is used to ensure that the phase of the subwoofer matches your main speakers. If this is wrong the bass will be reduced. Set this by ear. Next comes the low pass filter, which is set to match the lowest cut-off frequency of your main speakers. The bass extension control can be set to your preference.
