Product Description

The Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Speaker is ideal for larger spaces and can handle up to 120 Watts. It has a bigger sound than the 707 S3 and a lower price than the 705 S3. It is a compact stand-mounted speaker that features a 25mm decoupled carbon dome tweeter and an upgraded crossover that provides exceptional detail and insight.

Additionally, the bass/midrange driver is a 165mm continuum cone unit with plenty of scale and extension for larger rooms.

Carbon dome tweeter

The carbon dome tweeter that is a feature of the Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Speaker has been specially designed for the 700 series. Moreover, it offers a considerable improvement over previous versions. The break-up frequency has been pushed well out of the audible range, at 47kHz. As a result, the sound is free and open.

Composite coned bass/midrange unit

The Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Speaker has a new curved cabinet front and individual drive pods that prevent any mutual interference. This reduces colouration for a cleaner and more immersive sound. Also, the composite cone of the bass/midrange driver is designed to avoid any abrupt transitions that can occur with inferior drivers.

The sound is smoother with a natural presentation. Voices and instruments have precision and transparency. Bower & Wilkins have developed four main technologies that are used in the 700 series. The first is the Continuum cone, the second is FST technology, and the third is Biomimetic Suspension and midrange decoupling. Lastly, decoupling isolates all the drivers from each other.

Upgraded crossover

The crossover in a speaker is used to split the audio spectrum into bands. Two-way designs have a high pass filter that feeds the tweeter. The crossover used in the Bowers & Wilkins 706 S3 Speaker has to be carefully designed, with the correct value of inductors and capacitors.

This is so that the crossover frequency is optimised for the drivers and delivers a flat frequency response. Top-quality components have to be used so that they do not drift in frequency or go leaky over the decades that they will be in service.

Home cinema systems

The 700 series is ideal for home cinema systems as there are floor-standers as well as stand-mount designs. The floor-standers can be used for the front left and right speakers, while the stand mount designs can be used for rear or side speakers.
