Product Description

Benchmark DAC3 B is ideal with HPA4 or LA4 as well as many professional studio applications. It matches the performance of the flagship DAC3 HGC but eliminates volume/mute/polarity control, analogue inputs and the headphone amplifier.

Basic Features

DAC3 B uses the exact same circuit board and audio path in the converter series. For easy system integration, DAC3 B retains IR remote control, 12V trigger and programmable auto-on. Optional 1/2-width rack-mount faceplate allows mounting of two units in one 1-RU rack space.

Benchmark's DAC1 and DAC2 D/A converters are the reference to which other converters have been compared. Benchmark converters are used every day at many of the finest recording studios and mastering spaces worldwide as well as being enjoyed by countless audiophiles.

DAC3 vs. DAC2

DAC3 builds on Benchmark’s highly successful DAC2 adding higher performance, thanks to the new ES9028PRO D/A converter, such as active 2nd and 3rd harmonic compensation, lower THD+N and passband ripple, improved frequency response as well as faster PLL lock times and switching between input signals

Harmonic Compensation

The ES9028PRO has dual distortion compensation systems that independently remove most of the 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortion in the D/A converter. Benchmark's ultra-clean analogue output stages allow these systems to be fully leveraged in the DAC3.

UltraLock3 System

This is an improved version of the UltraLock2 system used in the DAC2. It locks with precise phase accuracy in only 6ms. Both UltraLock systems provide virtually perfect jitter attenuation, but the lightning-fast lock time of the new UltraLock3 will be appreciated by many of users as it eliminates all audible jitter artefacts.

Multi-Mode USB System

Benchmark's USB system supports USB Audio 2.0, DSD, and USB Audio 1.1. It is agile and follows sample rate shifts instigated by the PC or media playback software. In all modes, the USB links are asynchronous to eliminate surplus jitter sources. DAC3 has a low-jitter master clock which regulates the transmission of audio from the PC to the USB system.

The PC asynchronously transfers data to a buffer which is then asynchronously transmitted to the DAC subsystem. This second transfer removes any traces of jitter that is collected during data transfer between USB and conversion mechanism.

Quad 32-bit Conversion

Quad balanced 32-bit DAC provide audio to Benchmark's low-impedance current-voltage converters. The 4:1 idleness prevents noise and distortion to standards that establish new benchmarks. The conversion system at the core of the DAC3 is as good as it gets. The analogue circuits that follow the D/A converter are carefully designed. Benchmark has leveraged its long history of building high-end analogue audio equipment, in order to create an outstanding output stage.

Control Lock

DAC3 B can be sealed to evade accidental alterations that could degrade audio in devoted apps. This feature disables the IR remote control and the front panel buttons. The second coaxial input can be set as a digital output. In output mode, any selected digital input passes through to the coaxial out. The digital pass through is bit-transparent and facilitates DSD, Dolby digital and DTS formats.

Bi-Directional Trigger

Benchmark re-invents the 12V trigger. The trigger connection can be used as an input, an output, or both. It is suitable with any typical 12v trigger in or out which can be used to switch on or off a power amplifier automatically.

Power Regulation

For lowest noise possible, DAC3 employs dispersed power supply regulation. Each vital subsystem features at least one devoted low-noise voltage regulator. The power switch can place the DAC3 in standby, or full shut down. In full shut down, the unit will still respond to the trigger input and the IR remote control. DAC3 employs high-efficiency low noise power supplies and can be operated from any typical international voltage with no adjustment.
