Product Description

Yamaha NS-5000 Monitor Speakers are a state-of-the art 3-way bookshelf speaker system that combines unparalleled sound quality with an effortlessly sleek aesthetic. The model showcases Resonance Suppression Chambers and an Acoustic Absorber to deliver an optimum sound performance.

Acoustic Velocity

The tweeter, midrange, and woofer showcase diaphragms crafted from 100% Zylon for its strength and premium elasticity. These are also coated with Yamaha's special mondel alloy. As result, the model enjoys a superbly flat frequency response and acoustic velocity over the full frequency range. Sit back and enjoy a sublime listening experience with intricately detailed sound reproduction.

No More Unwanted Resonance

Look out for the newly developed R.S. Chambers that suppress unnecessary tube resonance. Two specially shaped tubes installed in accordance with Yamaha’s proprietary acoustic analysis cancel tube resonance. These R.S. Chambers achieve higher-resolution audio reproduction by eliminating the need for a large quantity of sound-absorbing material inside the enclosure that tends to smooth the frequency response of each speaker unit and might degrade minute nuances of the sound.

A Timeless Bookshelf Design

The model's bookshelf design continues the legacy of 1974’s seminal NS-1000M. The bass-reflex enclosure is expertly crafted with the 3-way mitered joint construction technique and other traditional crafting methods. Crosspieces that are reinforced inside the enclosure reduce “box ringing” caused by delayed vibration, based on FEM analysis. Additionally, a twisted flare port stops port noise inherent in the bass reflex design and enhances resolution in the low-frequency range while also improving signal-to-noise performance.

Unique Handcrafted Materials

The model’s exquisite attention to detail can be seen in the laminated plywood enclosure crafted from Japanese White Birch from the island of Hokkaido. This luxury material is resilient and durable as well as strikingly opulent.

Eliminate Unwanted Sound

The specially designed cuboid cabinet brings together internal standing waves at a certain frequency, which are then cancelled by a recently developed resonance tube. The need for a huge amount of sound-absorbing material inside the enclosure is eliminated by this technology. With accuracy and efficiency standing waves are virtually eliminated so you can immerse yourself in enlivened music without noise interference.

Glossy Black Finish

All six external surfaces of the enclosure have a glossy black piano finish created using the same dedicated paint, primer, and polishing processes used for Yamaha’s world-famous grand pianos. This finish further increases the overall rigidity of the enclosure, and also suppresses fine vibrations, contributing to the vibrant sound and significantly improved signal-to-noise performance.

Frequency-Dividing Network

A natural listening experience is offered by the positive phase with single wiring that connects all drivers in the model. The components of its frequency-dividing network are mounted on a double-sided printed circuit board with extra-thick copper traces. The loss of sound data during transmission is reduced by a shorter signal path on the circuit board.

Press Reviews

  • “With its three-way design, wide baffle and similar dimensions, Yamaha’s NS-5000 is evocative of the NS-1000/1000M but isn’t simply a recreation of this classic. Rather, it’s a technologically advanced speaker in its own right, with a wide spectrum of abilities backed by some extremely clever engineering. Sonically from the same mould as its ancestor, it’s nevertheless a more balanced and versatile loudspeaker.” (Hi-Fi News, June 2017)

  • “Its balanced, seamless portrayal is extremely rare, yet its powerful demeanour ensures high levels of sound are carried imperiously (…) In short, Yamaha’s new flagship is altogether better equipped for today’s hi-fi world.” (Hi-Fi News, June 2017)

  • “The icing on the cake is that is also looks a million dollars: a broad-shouldered hunk in a world of skinny wimps.” (Hi-Fi News, June 2017)
