Save 35% on these black oak Wharfedale Jade 1 bookshelf speakers. This model was designed to offer unbeatable sound from a compact speaker that is (ideally) used with or without suitable speaker stands.
Most customers are buying these to use in a stereo hi-fi setup, although you can also use them in conjunction with a suitable centre speaker and subwoofer as front and/or rear channels in a 5.1 channel or 7.1 channel home cinema set-up.
At the time of their release (before the recent Reva range in which the Reva-2 is the equivalent speaker), the Jade range took advantage of Wharfedale's proprietary technology "trickled down" from their incredibly high end Airedale Heritage Classic speakers.
The Jade 1 was the most compact speaker in the range and designed specifically to deliver high end, room filling bookshelf performance from a more affordable speaker - and that was at their £599 retail price!
Jade 1 was designed by award winning engineer Peter Comeau, who says “The goal is to allow the listener to become involved in the musical performance by immersion in the full emotion and passion engendered by the original musicians. We call this the Wharfedale Experience.”
Just as impressive as the sound, Wharfedale took great care with the quality of the cabinets. Far from "boxy" in design, the Jade has an elegant curved shape which looks more stunning in person than the photos can convey.
The cabinets are made from Wharfedale's proprietary Crystalam, a material formed from bonded layers of natural woods and composites, which is made to reduce panel vibrations and sound leakage to a point below that which is audible. This avoids any sort of "acoustic signature" given away by many conventional boxy cabinets. By spreading the resonances over a wider frequency range, the cabinets no longer have an audible influence on the sound of the drivers so Jade 1 can be faithful to the source.
Unlike many speakers that suggest they use "high end drivers" or similar but infact use traditional or OEM drivers, Wharfedale went back to the drawing board with Jade. These speakers feature another proprietary material in the cones, called Acufiber, which matches the responsiveness of carbon fibre and glass and with a self damping woven matrix. This is combined with a linear drive motor system (created just for this speaker) and results in a neutral radiator that is responsive enough to transfer musical transients without dulling, yet naturally damped to reduce coloration. The result is again more neutrality. You want honesty - you've got it!
These speakers are a three-way design. To keep upto the standard of everything else that's gone into this speaker, Jade 1 features exceptional crossovers for seamless driver integration and through extensive research and development, Wharfedale have created a crossover that is perfectly phase linear.
The sonic result is that effectively the speakers disappear from your soundstage, simply giving you a natural, cohesive sound and window into the musical performance.
Jade 1 is capable of pin point sonic detail and expression across a wide range of musical types and sounds. They are unfussy about positioning in the room and are free from coloration, being faithful to the original recording.
These speakers allow you to forget about the speakers and simply to immerse yourself in the music.
Speaker Stand Recommendation
These speakers can be placed on a desktop or other strong surface, although we always recommend using them with suitable filled speaker stands - our recommendation at a minimum is Atacama Nexus 6 stands, filled with Atacama Atabites.
14 Sep 2016Bought these as an addition to my 8.2 surround set up as surround speakers.
Tried them as front stereo speakers as well and was very impressed. If want a really deep bass response, hook up a Subwoofer as well.
Very good quality speakers, from sound definition to quality of cabinet and finish.
These compliment the Jade C2 as a centre and Jade C1 as a surround back very well indeed.
26 Jul 2016I bought these to replace and upgrade my old Tannoy Mercury bookshelf speakers. I'm running them with an old but to my ears still very good Rotel amplifier on Target stands with Chord speaker cables. Compared to the Tannoy's they are a breath of fresh air, an open sound with plenty of detailing and dynamics. I plan to upgrade the Rotel soon and will be back in touch to audition some integrated amps but for now, suffice to say these were a good deal with fast delivery and I am very happy so far with the speakers.
16 Apr 2016Really impressed, I'd already taken advantage of Audio Affair's deal on the rosewood 10.1 and couldnt resist pair of these for in my other system.
