Townshend Audio Glastonbury Universal Player is an ultra high end CD, SACD and DVD Audio player with rechargeable internal battery supply and a purist design sure to delight most of the most selective audiophiles. The player rums from an internal 6 volt SLA internal battery that runs for upto 30 hours inbetween charges when the player is turned off. Wonderfully, the player features a beautiful analogue volt meter to display the state of charge.
Two Townshend FractalWire transformers with ultra-thin 80% nickel laminations feature with the Burr Brown DSD179 DAC which can handle PCM signals upto 192kHz as well as direct conversion of SACD discs. DAC output connects to the output transformers through a simple first order low pass, utilising the transformers reactive component as part of the filter. Secondary transformer windings connect directly to the audio outputs for fully balanced operation via XLR or pseudo balanced via RCA.
This player is a fine choice if you're seeking a reference player unhindered by the quality of the mains supply. Battery operation once charged ensures the purist circuitry runs at its optimum and offers musical pleasure at any time of day and with any other components; whether used with current hungry power amps or not. This player is to CD, SACD and DVD-Audio what Townshend's Rock is to vinyl playback - a new standard.
