Product Description

TEAC NT-503 USB DAC and headphone amplifier is the non-DAB model of the NT-503DAB with USB and network capability supporting high-res audio and streaming. Play WAV/FLAC files from PC or NAS drive along with Spotify, Deezer and Bluetooth aptX.

Dual Monaural Structure

A substantial dual-monaural circuit comprises everything from the toroidal core power transformers and DACs to the analogue output stage. A complete mono circuit for each channel prevents signal interference, suppressing it between the left and right channels.

NT-503 delivers both balanced and unbalanced audio signals, either Fixed or Variable to connect to a power amplifier. "Off" disables signals to rear ports, focusing performance on headphone output.

Velvet Sound DAC

NT-503 USB uses a Verita AK4490 DAC Chip, developed by Asahi Kasei Microdevices, which has an established reputation for high-end audio equipment use. The expressive velvet sound concept perfectly replicates high-res sources down to the sound waves outside the audible range.

Newly developed low distortion technology lowers noise floor to 112dB; best in the industry for a 120dB class DAC. Supporting native playback with direct 11.2MHz DSD processing, NT-503 expresses the smooth detail and special sound placement that characterise high-resolution audio sources.

Digital Isolator

Between the digital and analogue sections, the NT-503 employs a Digital Isolator to completely isolate each power supply path and the ground. All digital noise from digital sources is prevented from entering the analogue section through a power supply path or the ground. An isolation circuit is beneficial when playing Hi-Res Audio sources that have higher sampling frequency.

Up Conversion

TEAC’s latest FPGA with exclusive Fluency algorithm supports 4x DSD along with 2, 4 or 8x PCM up-conversion processing. NT-503 up-converts 16-bit data from a conventional CD into 11.2MHz DSD. An analogical interpolation algorithm produces higher audio data to restore natural sound to as close as the original.

The NT-503 hosts a pair of sample clocks, one each for multiples of 44.1kHz and 48kHz. In addition, a 10MHz clock input allows the DAC to be connected to Rubidium or GPS clocks for calibration or constant use.

iOS/Android Devices

TEAC HR Remote for iOS and TEAC AVR Remote for Android allows NT-503 to access on-line music services like Spotify, Deezer and Slacker. The internet radio portal provides over 100,000 radio stations and 4 million podcasts all over the world.

NT-503's front USB port supports DSD, PCM and conventional MP3/WMA files stored on USB. The organic electroluminescent display (OELD) with a 4-level dimmer provides high contrast and excellent visibility. A large-sized font lets you check the volume level even from across the room.

HCLD Current Driver

TEAC’s High Current Line Driver circuits output music signals without losing their great dynamic range. For each channel side, two buffer circuits with high current transfer capabilities are included. By using differential drive for balanced output and parallel for unbalanced, the current transfer capabilities are increased, crucial for analogue output circuits, allowing transfer of music signals without losing their dynamism.

NT-503 employs a high-performance headphone amplifier outputting 500+500mW power. The HCLD circuits, based around four output transistors in parallel mode, drive conventional single-ended headphones powerfully and precisely. A class-AB amp with extended class-A operation processes much of the amplification in class-A maximising potential of high impedance (600Ω) headphones.

QVCS High-Precision

Quad Volume Control System is a fully-balanced circuit design from the output of DACs and Volume amp section. Precisely control four independent variable-gains simultaneously; +/- for left and right channels. Signal paths are simplified with independent L/R channels and phase preserved for clear sound quality and outstanding channel separation.

QVCS also provides 0.5dB steps of volume control, precisely throughout the effective range from -95dB to +24dB. Both the line output and headphone volume can be controlled to the exact level with a remote control; useful when connecting various headphones of different impedances.

High Resolution Streaming

NT-503 is a versatile network player supporting 5.6MHz DSD and 24-bit/192kHz WAV/FLAC playback from PC/ NAS. Gapless playback is also supported when playing back files of the same sampling frequency even if the file format varies. Bluetooth wireless connection is supported using advanced codecs like aptX, AAC, and SBC for best performance.
