The Tannoy Mercury V4i is the latest version of the multi award-winning Mercury V4, and includes a range of improvements over its predecessor. Featuring two powerful 165mm (6.5") mid/bass drivers, the V4i has a high-impact design which delivers authoritative performance with power and vigour.
When Tannoy designed the V4i, they were conscious of the big boots it had to fill. Redesigned from the ground up, the V4i features the same all-new magnesium alloy dome tweeter as the V1i, which offers an extremely wind bandwidth and immensely detailed high frequency response.
The V4i feature the same high output levels as the V1i, and are an easy to drive load suitable for hi-fi and AV application.
Improvements over the V4
The V4i's new wideband tweeter extends treble reproduction to 53kHz, providing a wide soundstage as well as more accurate articulation of instruments. The result is a near holographic soundstage - imaging is tangible and realistic.
The V4i's Mercury mid/bass drivers are an ultra light design, providing them with a speed and attack rarely found in budget floorstanders. The cabinet bracing has been significantly revised, internal wiring is now silver-plated and an enhanced Differential Material Technology (DMT) has been utilised on the HF capacitors. The result is a much greater refinement across the board, and an even more involving performance - all enhanced by the improved imaging and soundstage.
The Mercury V4i features a new plinth assembly, lending even greater stability than previous Mercury floorstanders - tightening bass performance, and adding both punch and accuracy.
Advanced Wideband tweeter
Key to the Mercury V4i is an all-new magnesium-aluminium alloy tweeter offering an extremely wide bandwidth and incredibly detailed high frequency response.
With a bandwidth extending out to 53 kHz, Mercury V4i delivers a wide soundstage and incredibly accurate instrument reproduction. Guitars sound fuller and more energetic, strings have a more natural timbre and space, and snare drums have faster more realistic leading edge attack.
As a direct upgrade over the award winning Mercury V4, the V4i offers a rigid plinth. This makes the speaker more stable which not only improves safety but leads to tighter and faster bass response.
The plinth houses integrated and adjustable carpet-piercing spikes to further enhance the stability and sound quality of the design.
Rigid braced cabinet
Revised internal bracing on the Mercury V4i creates a beefy cabinet with low vibration and extremely low colouration.
Built from wood pulp and high density fibre loaded board, each cabinet benefits from low frequency port-tuning allowing Mercury V4i to punch out dynamic bass rhythms like a much larger loudspeaker.
Crossover with Differential Materials Technology
The Mercury V4i crossover features higher tolerance components, new wiring and the use of Tannoy’s bespoke Differential Material Technology (DMT) damping on the HF capacitors.
Designed to seamlessly integrate the new tweeter with the stiff but light pulp fibre mid / bass cone, first introduced on Mercury V, the new crossover offers smoother integration and a greater sense of musicality and communication. Using two mid/bass drivers, the Mercury V4i delivers clean, rich and deep bass performance.
High purity silver-plated wiring
Unheard of in a budget loudspeaker design, Tannoy’s engineers found that this high quality silver plated oxygen-free copper cable gives Mercury V4i speakers better air and space in treble detailing. The result is a more articulate and detailed sound with resolution of fine detail and micro dynamics on par with speakers costing much more.
Great looks In response to the demand for products designed to enhance home decor, Mercury V4i is the best looking Mercury loudspeaker range to date. The clean lines, brushed aluminium trim, subtle branding and choice of sugar maple or dark walnut finish, with black plinth, ensure Mercury V4i look as good as they sound in any home.
'There’s just no limit to the Tannoys’ enthusiasm for up-tempo, attacking material – the punchier it gets, the more these speakers like it.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine)
'the Tannoys demonstrate lovely midrange clarity – the vocal has real breathing-space in the spare, open arrangement and is delivered with every fine detail and vocal inflection intact.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine)
'Where out-and-out scale is concerned the Tannoys punch well above their weight too. Even an enraged symphony orchestra in full attack mode ... doesn’t phase them – they establish a wide, fairly tall soundstage and position each instrument on it with a fair degree of skill and accuracy.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine)
'The midrange will win fans, too – the V4is are brilliantly communicative with singers of all types..... From the ragged gasping for breath of Elvis Costello to the silky precision of Nina Simone, the V4is communicate with a directness and explicitness that's rare at this sort of money.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine)
