Product Description

Pro-Ject Pre Box DS2 Digital Pre Amplifier combines a sophisticated casing with a fully universal design. Pair with other fellow high-calibre models in the DS2 family for a lush and detailed soundscape.

Any Source, Any Time

The model's Bluetooth receiver supports aptX connectivity for high-calibre wireless sound conversion. Consequently, the model is suitable for any available source, offering you full flexibility and freedom.

Shape Your Sound

Thanks to the built-in D/A converter AK4490 made by respected manufacturer Asahi Kasai Microdevices, the model enjoys five different digital filters, enabling you to shape the sound to your desired preference.

With full DSD256 support and upsampling of all input signals to 768kHz from USB, coaxial and optical inputs, the model boasts high-resolution sound playback with a lush sound field and a less distorted bass representation. Take advantage of five digital inputs alongside analogue line level input and a phono line in.

Effortless Versatility

The sample rate converter (AK4137) showcases three different settings/sound modes. As a result, the model is the most versatile audiophile pre-amplifier D/A converter in its price range.

Press Reviews

  • 'the sound quality of this affordable two-piece set-up doesn’t disappoint. The combination of the Pre Box DS2 and Amp Box DS2 copes admirably with a range of musical genres' (Hi-Fi News Magazine Nov 2017)

  • ‘Pro-Ject’s less expensive Pre Box S2 seemed to mercilessly highlight every finger-scratch on Rice’s guitar playing, but the DS2 version manages to focus its attention on the rich acoustic guitar sound and discreetly allows all but the worst finger slips to step into the background.’ (Hi-Fi News Magazine Nov 2017)

  • ‘…there’s precision too in the DS2’s handling as each distinct voice takes its place in the mounting chorus, creating a towering sense of space worthy of the loftiest cathedrals... In this instance the closer confines of the headphones actually seemed to intensify the impact of the music, making it clear that the headphone option provided here is no mere afterthought.’ (Hi-Fi News Magazine Nov 2017)

  • 'the 12-volt triggers that can switch on the matching power amplifier and it should be evident that Pro-Ject have crammed into the Pre Box's modest (and wooden end-capped) frame more than some full-sized components are capable of.' (Hi-Fi World Magazine Nov 2017)

  • 'There's some great stuff in this system, which is ready for any source you might care to throw at it. And with the right material it can deliver goods sonically. DSD and - hardly surprisingly, given Pro-Jects's background - vinyl playback were particularly noteworthy.' (Hi-Fi World Magazine Nov 2017)

  • 'DSD files sounded great; musical detail was finely-etched, and an analogue warmth and sense of space is evident... in terms of emotional engagement, it's like listening to an audiophile LP - but without the clicks.' (Hi-Fi World Magazine Nov 2017)
