Primare I22 Integrated Amplifier features a similar design to the Primare I32 but at a much lower price, with an optional DAC board. The I32 also utilises Primare's acclaimed proprietary UFPD power technology, which is designed to provide high power output (80W per channel) with very low distortion and system control.
An optional DAC board is available for the I22, comprising three digital inputs for the upgrading of existing CD players via their digital outputs, and the streaming of music files from PCs and Macs. There is an asynchronous USB-B input (16-24bit data at 44.1 to 96kHz), a TOSLINK connector (16-24 bit data at 44.1-192kHz) and SPDIF (16-24bit/44.1-192kHz).
Specialised processing at the asynchronous USB-B input re-clocks the incoming data for reduced jitter and greater bit resolution through the DAC, optimising sound quality from music files.
This is one of our favourite integrated amplifiers as there is very little anywhere close to this price that offers the smooth, superlative sound quality possible from this Primare. Remembering that Primare's other amplifiers cost between £1999 and £6499, puts into perspective that the design experience and sound quality offered by the I22 is very good value indeed.
