Product Description

The Ortofon MC Quintet Blue is a capable Moving Coil cartridge, offering dynamics, resolution  and offering an open sound with detailed reproduction. The Quintet range offers a taste of high-end Moving Coil performance but at a more affordable price point than has previously been available. This cartridge has very high price-to-performance ratio all-rounder and offers more smooth reproduction than the Quintet Red, as well as more moderate dynamic strength than the Quintet Bronze.

The MC Quintet Blue features a nude elliptical stylus, which offers sonic advantages over spherical designs, as it is more similar to the shape of stylus used to cut the master discs, and therefore can track the record’s grooves more accurately and reveal more musicality and detail from your music collection.

Press Reviews

  • 'When set up for optimal performance it's a stonkingly honest cartridge for the cash with a level of sophistication and details that belies its price... Fantastic sounding mid-price MC that does everything right.' (Hi-Fi Choice Magazine Oct 2014)

  • 'While on paper the Blue's spec doesn't better its rivals, it's the execution of the engineering that earns it top marks. It offers the most comprehensive and enjoyable performance with all music, showing Ortofon has clearly hit upon another magic formula.' (Hi-Fi Choice Magazine Oct 2014)

  • 'While there may be alternative pick-ups out there for similar cash that shine brighter with detail or strive for a grander presentation, you'll be very hard pressed to find a better alternative that's as well balanced across the board as the Blue. This pick-up offers a sound that's both refined and yet bags of fun, guaranteeing it's place as a fantastic all-rounder for those wanting a quality moving-coil on a budget'. (HiFi News December 2014)

  • 'Bass is incredibly well articulated and evenly presented without ever sounding overly emphasised or rolling off too early, making the Ortofon's presence and detail felt without becoming overwhelming on more demanding bass-heavy music.' (Hi-Fi Choice Magazine 2014)
