The Naim NAC 152 XS preamplifier provides the perfect option for when a separate preamplifier/power amplifier approach is preferred to an Integrated amplifier such as the NAIT XS.
It was conceived around a completely new motherboard design that incorporates advances of both analogue electronics and mechanical decoupling, and its performance is detailed, refined and utterly musical. Versatility is a NAC 152 XS forte too. Five of Its six analogue inputs all offer DIN or phono connection options and it incorporates a front-mounted, auto-switching input socket for convenient MP3 player use. Power output for a Naim phono preamplifier is also included and a two-stage power supply upgrade regime brings true high-end preamplifier performance easily within reach.
Based on NAC 202
The NAC 152 XS, a replacement for the NAC 122x, is based on its larger brother the NAC 202 and features a hardwired motorised Alps volume control potentiometer delivering better performance and lower noise in use. The six DIN inputs are relay switched, improving performance. Much care in the design has been afforded to making the casework and PCB as low resonance as possible and to isolate the PCB from the environment and hence deleterious vibrations.
Naim Standard DINs
The NAC 152 XS features an additional output in addition to the Naim standard DINs. This stereo output on two RCA sockets, is optimised for connection to an active subwoofer, supports the growing use of 2.1 systems. Its rear panel layout is similar to the NAC 202 and hence is Fraim friendly. The NAC 152 XS can be powered from the preamp power outputs of the NAP 155 XS or NAP 200 or can be upgraded by powering it from either a FlatCap XS or HiCap power supply. One of the DIN inputs can supply power to a Naim StageLine outboard phono stage.
We are here to help find the right system for you. As a suggested starting point, you may want to consider partnering the NAC 152 XS with the following:
- CD5 XS
- NAT05 XS
- NAP 155 XS
- FlatCap XS
When combined with the NAP 155 XS power amp, this preamp ticks many of the boxes but doesn’t have the wow factor needed to achieve five-star status. Overall, the NAC 152 XS/NAP 155 XS is a talented and well-thought-out duo that has many talents. It just lacks the polish and finesse of the top amps around. (What Hi-Fi Magazine)
