Product Description

Naim Mu-So Qb (pronounced "cube" owing to its cubic design) is an exciting addition to the Naim Audio range, a smaller and more compact baby brother to the award winning full-size Mu-So. Mu-So Qb is a true feat of sound engineering. Simple to control and easy to connect, Mu-so Qb delivers a staggering 300 watts to unmask your music with a sound that defies size.

Mu-so Qb shares the same DNA as the original award winning Naim Mu-so music system, all intuitively crafted into a compact and stylish cubic design. Controlled by a powerful audio brain, Mu-so Qb is alive with custom features all designed in Nnaim's audio laboratories in Salisbury, England.

Like its larger brother, it too can be customised with optional coloured grilles. Supplied as standard with a black grille, you can order a Burnt Orange, Vibrant Red or Deep Blue grille separately (£49.95).

Please note: the iPad Mini and phone shown in some photos are not included!

Easy to use

Its advanced in design, yet very simple to use and its advanced connectivity will unleash your digital music, wherever it’s stored. Connect Mu-so Qb to a network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi to open up a world of music.

Options includes Airplay, Bluetooth/aptX, Spotify Connect, TIDAL, UPnP (access your stored music), Internet radio, USB, analogue and digital inputs, Apple iOS and Android App for complete control. Basically, everything you can ask for, all with the benefit of Naim sound quality!

Multi Room Capability

You can combine Mu-so Qb with another Mu-so Qb or with the full size Naim Mu-so system to stream music in different rooms, for the ultimate multiroom experience. Just pause and consider this for a moment - this is multi room audio from the flagship Naim Audio brand, for the first time ever! To say we're excited about this is a huge understatement. Multi room Mu-So with all of the connectivity options summarised above now gives you an amazing alternative to other multi room solutions. Simply sync the units to play the same song beat-for-beat in up to five rooms of your home.

Components tailored for Qb

One of the biggest design challenges with Mu-so Qb was to configure the individual speakers within the smaller cabinet. To achieve that distinctive Naim sound in a compact unit, our engineers had to interrogate every component and adjust speaker angles by the smallest of fractions. It gave us an arrangement of five drivers, offset and angled perfectly to create a left-right dispersion discrepancy.

Mu-so Qb uses a unique configuration of seven custom speaker drivers – 1 x active bass, 2 x passive bass, 2 x mid-range and 2 x tweeters. Each active unit is individually controlled by the DSP for total accuracy. Tweeters and microfibre domes are of the highest quality, while its mid drivers have rare earth magnets and copper capped poles for even greater accuracy. And for low frequencies, we’ve installed two pistonic passive bass radiators that work alongside a custom-made woofer. There is 300W of amplification in total with each of the five drive units are powered by individual balanced Class-D amplifiers, capable of delivering 50W to the mid-range and high-frequency drivers and 100W to the bass, to create astonishing low frequencies for a system this size.

There are many other design elements that make Mu-so Qb unique - all are born from a desire for music performance and quality. An extruded aluminium heat sink maximises thermal performance. Mu-so Qb is encased in a highly complex, 20% glass-filled polymer for strength, rigidity and dampening. And at the core is the volume control - made from a solid aluminium ring, which runs the circumference of the touch-panel interface with a patent-pending illumination system.

Everything in Mu-so Qb is controlled by its audio brain – a 32-bit digital signal processor with software fine-tuned in our listening room. It controls the flow of music information to each speaker, drawing on everything we have learned from designing the best in-car audio systems for Bentley motors. It also includes two EQ settings, tailoring the best sound quality whether the unit is close to or away from the edge of any room.

Mu-so Qb undoubtedly takes a lot of inspiration from the award-winning Mu-so design. However, it was never a case of simply resizing the original. Naim Audio have reinvented the whole thing by rethinking every component and considering every new material along the way. Naim's engineers had to find new ways to create that classic Naim sound within a much smaller footprint, and that is what makes Mu-so Qb truly unique.

Through our experience, analytics, and fine-tuning by ear, Naim have created an incredible sounding compact wireless system. Mu-so Qb keeps all the things that made the original design so special, but at the same time it has a unique personality all of its own. The whole cabinet sits on an illuminated base of high-grade acrylic that provides the foundation for the electronics and speakers to shine.

Press Reviews

  • 'A small speaker with big personality, the Qb combines style, substance and a whole lot of features at a more affordable price.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'Naim took some time out from producing more traditional hi-fi kit to have a punt at the wireless speaker market, and not only gained a legion of new fans, but also proved it could bring hi-fi sound quality to a one-box design... Now Naim is taking this a step further, by taking everything that we love about the original Mu-so and squeezing it into a more affordable, more compact design.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'But the real coup for the Naim Qb is that it comes with all the streaming features found in the bigger Mu-so. This means Apple AirPlay, aptX Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, Tidal and internet radio are all present, as is uPnP for sniffing out music stored on your home network for playback.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'One of the first things that strikes us about the Qb is just how powerful it is for a small speaker... It suits its rather bold demeanour, with an upfront, muscular presentation that certainly isn’t short of clout in the low end.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'While the bass might steal the show in the sonic signature, its solidity rubs off on the midrange and treble too. Vocals are clean and focused, while the high-end sounds open and composed – there’s no hint of hardness here.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'The Qb keeps up at every change of tempo and makes rhythmic sense of manic riffs that lesser speakers would stumble over. It’s a masterclass in timing, and it’s this that really makes the Qb character one to fall in love with. Its bold, upfront sound may well grab your attention, but the punchy precision and rhythmic know-how holds it from there on in.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'It complements the Mu-so’s slightly more refined sound with one that’s a touch more mainstream in its balance, packing a punch in the low end and delivering a real sense of presence and solidity... if the budget is there, there’s no doubt the Qb should be on top of your consideration list.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)
