Sony 4K projectors are definite market leaders and the exceptional reviews and following they've received show their complete dedication to 4K technology.

It is widely regarded in the industry that Sony, JVC and Epson are key competitors and while JVC have their DLA technology for incredible blacks and Epson has arguably the best value cinema quality HD projectors, Sony has 4K. It has been Sony that is working to establish the High Dynamic Range (HDR) standard in the industry, which brings expressive true to life imagery, and a greater range of brightness levels across the visual spectrum.

Founded by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita at the end of World War II (1947) the company was initially called Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo. Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo built Japan's first tape recorder called the Type-G and subsequently in 1958 changed the company name to ‘Sony’, which was chosen as a mix of two words. The name Sony comes from the Latin ‘Sonus’ which is the root of the word sonic and therefore sound and ‘sonny’, which was a common 1950s slang term which described smart and presentable young man.

The breakthrough for Sony was the TR-63 radio; and with it they cracked the US market and launched a new market of consumer microelectronics. American teenagers began buying portable transistor radios in huge numbers, helping to propel the fledgling industry from 100,000 units in 1955 to 5 million units by the end of 1968.

With the "made in Japan" label Sony significantly changed perceptions of Japanese products. With Sony being known for high production quality, they were able to charge above-market prices for their consumer electronics and resisted lowering prices.

As of today, Sony not only leads the market in 4k projectors but is also a the semiconductor sales leaders, as of 2016, and the fifth-largest television manufacturer in the world.
