HiFi Man HE560 Planar Magnetic Headphones (genuine with full warranty) are designed for reference use in the home or studio, are lighter, more comfortable and easier to drive than the globally renowned HE500 model.
Highly Effective Advancements
Incorporating wooden cups, single-ended planar magnetic driver, a suspended headband and improved material quality, the advancements are evident in the midrange detail, speed and sound-staging. Bevelled ear pads offer increased comfort and the newly designed cable comprises of crystalline copper and crystalline silver to capture every detail and lower crosstalk between channels.
Planar Magnetic Technology
An orthodynamic headphone that uses planar magnetic technology, HiFi Man HE560 has a membrane that is near permanent magnets so when the signal flows through the conductor, the opposing electromagnetic field on the conductive membrane is repelled or attracted producing sound with openness and detail that is difficult to achieve with conventional designs.
Dynamic Bass and Smooth Highs
The deep, consistent and dynamic bass finds the ideal balance between controlled and hard-hitting. With no discernible mid-bass hump, the HE-560 headphones deliver both remarkable impact and rumble. The treble transition is smooth with a refined top end that remains raised, holding a great amount of energy without sounding harsh or sibilant.
Finish and Accessories
Finished in a dark wood grain with flat black accents, it is supplied with a cable and a sliding-lid wood storage box. The dual-sided cable is detachable and utilizes coaxial connectors. The cups rotate a full 180 degrees, which is good for storage and transport as well as wearing comfort. The HE560 uses hybrid velour and leather ‘Focus A’ ear pads, which breathe relatively well and are heavily bolstered at the back to keep the headphones securely in position.
12 Feb 2016Hifiman has been around for almost a decade and has been well received as one of the best Planar Magnetic Headphone Players in the market ( I.E HE-6 or even the classic HE400)
I gazed upon the HE560 which was on sale on Audioaffair one day and took the opportunity to head down to the showroom itself to audition it thoroughly. Moreover, there were various Amps/dacs that can be applied with the 560's which in case allowed me to audition the headphones with full ease and satisfaction.
This review is a summary of the main characteristics of the HE-560's"
BASS: The bass, oh my the bass , well not full bloom boomy bass like the AUDEZE LCD-2 or impactful like the HE-400i, the 560 is on it's own playing field with bass that is controlled, tight and needed when it's needed. Bass texture is impressive with certain hump that is very enjoyable. DEpending on the music played , the bass has the capability of extending low when it is needed
MIDS: I would indicate that the MIDS are "dry" or "lean" to describe it. Not as forward and intimate as the LCD-2 or the PM-1 but slightly, just slightly laid back ( This is where perfect combination Amps comes into place) , however different amps will have different effects on the MIDS of the HE560's. Furthermore, what it makes up for it is the clarity which is certainly very pleasant and intimate, inducing vocals to be very "real"and having a lot of air flowing through the songs.
HIGHS: Treble on these are quite sublime, not too aggressive, not too bright, just right in the middle. SMOOTH is emphasized on the HIGHS, non- fatiguing and certainly quite extravagant. Although not as forgiving on poor recordings , sibilance is not generally heard on. Very impressive.
IMAGING: With proper assurance the imaging is really something, from left to right with accurate imaging of instrument details. Although not as proper as the HD800's but HE-560's are not far behind.
SOUNDSTAGE: Soundstage is quite wide and depth is good. HD800 still wins in this category but it's a weakness of Planar Magnetics, no complaints here. Paired with meticulous imaging, music comes alive with amazing balance.
Conclusion : At a price which is generally lower than the AUDEZE line, this headphone is a winner in terms of price and performance. I have not fully burned in the headphone yet (150 hours) but generally you can expect the HE560 to be more on the neutral side, but still maintaining some of the "fun" aspect of HIFIMAN signature, leading music to sound less dull and more alive.
