The Ecko EV55SE is an integrated valve amplifier and the first vintage tube electronics product from EKCO. The EV55SE is a Class AB Push-Pull design, offering a choice between triode and ultra-linear operation at 28W and 55W respectively.
Featuring 5 RCA inputs as well as an A/B speaker selection into 8 ohms which is controllable via the remote control. The EV55SE chassis is constructed out of protective grilles finished with high-temp black paint which protects the valve tubes while the sides of the chassis feature matched pairs of handcrafted solid wood panels in a piano gloss finish, which adds to the overall classy and elegant feel of the valve amplifier.
The EV55SE utilises KT88 valves, a beam tetrode vacuum tube which fits a standard eight pin ceramic octal socket and is designed specifically for audiophile amplication. The KT88 is one of the most popular tubes in its class and ahs the capability of handling very high plate voltages up to 800V. Two KT88 valves in push pull Class AB fixed bias have a maximum output of up to 55W at low distortion.
The EKCO EV55SE features a switch allowing it to alternate from Triode mode (at 28W per channel) into an ultralinear mode (at 55W per channel), working in a push pull Class AB mode. When operated as an ultralinear amplifier, output impedance becomes lower, which provides a daming factor double that of a triode, while distortion is lowered in order to approach the ultimate achieved with a triode tube, while power output is increased in order to near the maximum available from pentodes.
The EV55SE features two speaker output options which are tailored for audiophiles who prefer multiple pairs of loudspeakers in their system, or who want to biwire their speakers. Also included is a special remote, permitting volume control from anywhere inside the room.
The protective grilles of the EV55SE are finished with a high-temp black paint which galvanises and protects the valve tubes, while the chassis' sides are constructed with matched pairs of hand-made solid deep Louro Preto wood panels in a piano gloss finish which add to the supreme build quality and premium feel of the EV55SE.
