Product Description

Takin’ It to the Streets marks a high point in the Doobie Brothers’ career; the mellowed-out 1976 album is heavily influenced by the contributions of former Steely Dan members Jeff Baxter and Michael McDonald. The latter are responsible for an increase in soulful melodies and Latin-fused rhythms, which help make Takin’ It to the Streets among the most enjoyably chill recordings of the era. Sonic charms are everywhere, particularly on the joyful title cut, an example of the band’s conscious embrace of R&B foundations and gospel accents. This is music designed for celebrating, relaxing, and romancing.

Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited-edition Hybrid SACD captures the band’s splendid interplay and opens up the dynamic gateway to the high frequencies. Engineers made certain that this SACD tops the prior MoFi editions cut back in 1988.

Why audiophile mastering on CD?

While the sonic benefits of audiophile LPs obviously include less noise and better dynamics, there are many advantages of audiophile CDs. In similarity to the LPs, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL) 'Ultradisc' CD releases are mastered from the original master tapes or the album (hence the 'Original Master Recording' at the top of every sleeve) and pressed on gold CDs. This reduces the problems of many standard CD releases, which are often mastered from fifth or sixth generation copies, which leads to a poorer sounding representation of the original recording. Mastering from the original recording allows every detail and nuance from the original recording to be translated to this release.

Furthermore, the sound of CDs is highly influenced by the accuracy and timing of the digital 1s and 0s reflected off the CD surface onto the CD player's laser. The gold surface used on these releases reflects 1s and 0s more accurately than a standard CD surface, which leads to a much smoother sound with better dynamics. Overall, the releases have a much more analog and natural sound without any of the harshness found on many standard CDs. Mobile Fidelity have become famous for the quality of their LP releases - now you can enjoy the brilliance of their mastering processes on this Ultradisc CD.

Half-speed mastered from the original analog tapes, Mobile Fidelity’s numbered limited-edition 24K Gold CD focuses on the myriad pitch changes that control the musical directions. Recorded at the band’s Synchro Sound studios by famed Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker, the album takes advantage of electronic textures and varying timbres in immersing the listener in accessible albeit abstract washes of sound. MoFi’s engineers made sure to capture every note and nuance; this marks the first time that Shake It Up has been remastered in any way, let alone from the original tapes.

Hybrid CD

This is a hybrid SACD which will play on both standard CD players and SACD players. You can enjoy the MFSL mastering on a standard CD player but also the sonic benefits of an SACD on an SACD player.
