Chord Sarum Super Tuned Aray Digital XLR cable has been tuned to carry a digital signal with a very high degree of accuracy.
Each conductor used to produce the Sarum Super ARAY AES/EBU cable is a micro-polished silver-plated single core conductor. Each conductor is insulated with gas foamed PTFE and insulated with the same heavy gauge dual foil and silver-plated braid that is used on other Sarum cables.
The cable is fitted with a specially adapted XLR plugs. The contacts are silver-plated, and in order to avoid any compression on the conductors and shields that would affect performance, the Sarum Super ARAY AES/EBU is fitted with custom made anodised aluminium rear sections, produced by a British engineering company who specialise in small runs of high precision parts.
The new Sarum Super ARAY cables do everything their predecessors did and a lot more. They are even more transparent which to anyone who uses or has heard the original Tuned ARAY version may seem a little surprising. It is more transparent though - and quite a lot more at that.
The silence between notes is a lot more apparent. That classic musician’s quote about music being the silence between notes has never been more apparent and what it adds to the musical experience is easier heard than talked about. All that silence means a lot of unheard but definitely unwanted noise has gone.
The absence of noise means you can hear everything; the extraordinary sound of the dying moments of piano notes can be easily heard creating that stunning atmosphere that you only get when you're right there in the room.
Dave Brubeck once said music was maybe not a universal language but rhythm definitely was. Tuned ARAY makes the most rhythmically transparent cables yet, and Super ARAY goes further still. Every little inflection, the drag of beat, the driver of the band, the slips and slurs of timing that make for a truly engrossing performance - they are all there and so easy to hear.
One of the many things that Tuned ARAY showed us was just how much cables can effect rhythm and timing and perhaps even more importantly, just how good so many digital components really were. This isn’t a clever cable trick, this is a cable that truly gets out of the way, and anyone with an understanding of how important rhythm and timing really are will hear just how good Super ARAY cables are. They bring out the magic in music.

Chord have said this is probably the first time they have been truly happy with the performance of an AES/EBU cable. The Sarum Super ARAY AES/EBU manages to produce a sound that is both detailed and musically coherent. Even so, we would still suggest that at this level of performance you should make no assumptions. Listen to the AES/EBU but listen to Sarum Digital RCA as well and make your own mind up.
