Like Sarum, the Chord Indigo Digital cable uses Tuned ARAY conductor technology, capable of carrying extraordinary levels of detail with what is, frankly, a level of temporal accuracy that few, if any other cables can manage.
What this means is a sense of rhythm and timing that turns a good hifi system into an extraordinary system that plays music with a level of involvement and detail that brings music to life and turns everything you listen to into a genuine musical performance.
The interesting thing here is just what level of equipment should you be using to warrant listening to an Indigo Digital Tuned ARAY? There isn’t an easy answer in terms of performance; the Indigo Digital Tuned ARAY is knocking on the door of a flagship digital cable, the Sarum Digital Tuned ARAY. Put either cable with a decent DAC and the benefits are so easy to hear. An Indigo Tuned ARAY turns a £1,000 DAC into a £2,000 DAC, but compare the combination with a £2,000 DAC and an ordinary digital cable, and the cheaper DAC plus Indigo starts to make a compelling case for itself.
In terms of construction the Indigo Digital Tuned ARAY cable is a close cousin to the extraordinary cable used in the Sarum Digital Tuned ARAY.
There is a single core of polished silver-plated copper surrounded by PTFE insulation and then a combination shield of high density silver-plated copper braid and heavy gauge silver-plated foil. The outer jacket is PTFE and the cable is built to an extremely precise standard in order to minimise mechanically induced noise.
The configuration of the conductors is identical to the one used in the Sarum Digital Tuned ARAY, with separate conductors for signal and return and an additional conductor. This is tuned to optimize performance with digital cables. The effect this has on performance can be transformational.
Vibration control is further improved by the use of our vibration controlling plug surround. Precision machined from acrylic, the plug casing surrounds ultra low mass, PTFE insulated signal pins and shrouds, dramatically reducing mechanically induced noise. Another major advantage of the acrylic RCA plug design is that it avoids compressing the cable in any way, and whilst this is important in analogue cables, it is critical in digital cables where any change to impedance can have a marked effect on sound quality.
We can also supply the Indigo Digital Tuned ARAY fitted with high performance 75 Ohm silver-plated BNC plugs. The fitting of these again avoids any compression of the conductors.
Use it with
Tuned ARAY digital interconnects rather upset the equation of cost of component and cost of cable. Even worse, there are some stunning digital to analogue converters available at what amounts to bargain prices, offering a level of performance that would have cost an awful lot of money a few years ago. So the answer here is if you’ve got a decent DAC then go have a listen. The results may well be rather surprising.
