There aren’t many artists out there who are as consistently iconic as Bob Dylan. Whether they loved his voice or hated it, his lyrics and cultural impact meant he was widely regarded as one of the voices of a generation (if not the voice) in the 60s and 70s, and seeing as this albums release in 2006 saw him as the oldest living person to have an album enter the billboard charts at #1 – with Dylan being 65 at the time. This highly anticipated album has since been recognised by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time and scooped two Grammys, one for the single ‘Someday Baby’ and another for the album as a whole.

There is something about Dylan that is irrevocably enchanting, and it’s unsurprising that Modern Times – his 32nd studio album, was such a universal commercial and critical success. It  encapsulates all of the themes that made him the somewhat reluctant figurehead for the counterculture movement in the 60s, and maintains his unique sound, still recognisable throughout the decades.

Why do you need this LP?
With leanings towards blues, rockabilly and pre-rock balladry, Modern Times is perhaps one of Dylan’s most significant albums to date. It contains all of the elements that made Dylan such an iconic artist in the first place – but with an added level of maturity and wisdom. We imagine Dylan has experienced a great deal in his time – more than perhaps your average folk singer – and such there is even more depth and profoundness in this LP. And of course, in lovingly finished and pressed vinyl, you will hear every depth in the sound, as well as the music.
