Revo SuperSignal DAB/FM/Bluetooth radio system fuses mid-century retro styling with 21st-century connectivity and sound quality.

The Revo SuperSignal radio system harks back to a golden era of feature design portable radios, which were once the darling of suburban homes everywhere. The last few decades have seen the humble “transistor radio” fall out of favour, but now, thanks to the efforts of companies such as Revo, it’s back; this time with a 21st Century makeover.

Let’s take a look at this charming and stylish update on the portable radios we grew up around…

REVO SuperSignal

Revo SuperSignal – an update on classic design

There are many situations around the home, where it’s just so nice to have music: In the kitchen for example, whilst cooking a meal or socialising with family. Let us not forget bedrooms either, where listening to the morning news as one gets ready can really help start the day off.

This is an Audiophile blog, and as such we’re normally more focussed upon full-scale Hi-Fi systems which often deserve a room to themselves. We have no shame in admitting our love, however, for the traditional “transistor radio”, the unsung hero of music delivery. Sadly, in recent decades, the luxury, high-quality portable radio has become something of a rare breed.

Reborn with 21st Century Technology

Today’s consumption of music “on the go” has changed a great deal since the heyday of those classic portable radio sets. Today’s users demand access to digital music sources, DAB radio and the ability to stream afrom form portable devices.

UK Design house, REVO, are experts in portable and mobile radio design; having launched their first product in 2004, REVO added the SuperSignal radio system to their award-winning line in 2106. Fusing beautiful, mid-century design aesthetics, with the digital connectivity demanded by today’s users.

Inescapably crafted in the retro style of the 1960s and 1970s, the Revo SuperSignal contains the very latest 21st Century technology, allowing access to FM and DAB Radio as well wireless Bluetooth connectivity. Oh, and there’s an alarm clock function built in too! Brilliant!

The REVO SuperSignal uses Qualcomm’s aptX Bluetooth codec to ensure CD-quality Bluetooth streaming from your mobile device; should you have an older style portable device, which only offers a line-output, a pair of RCA line-inputs on the rear of the REVO SuperSignal allows you to connect any stereo device directly.

Digital Power, Analogue Convenience

At rest, the SuperSignal could easily be mistaken for a chic radio of yesteryear; it’s clean, mid-century Scandinavian style design is available in matt black, matt white or “period correct” walnut wood veneer with a choice of black or, for maximum retro style, silver grilles.

A discrete miniature joy-stick allows for simple navigation around the SuperSignal’s menus. The Array of preset buttons, a chromed telescopic aerial, and the large rotary knob on the top only add to the stylish retro illusion.

Powering up the REVO SuperSignal hints at the 21st-century tech hiding within; a bright, clear, OLED display is suddenly visible through the smoked perspex front panel, and with it, access to the Revo SuperSignal’s modern connectivity. Both FM and DAB radio broadcast information is viewable, making tuning and radio listening easy.

All of this technology would be a terrible let-down, however, were the REVO SuperSignal to be a let down when it came to sound quality. The SuperSignal utilises unique BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) speaker drivers which utilise flat diaphragm transducer technology for a high-performance, compact drive unit which offers a room-filling sound.

An efficient 15 watt Class-D power amplifier is coupled to cutting-edge sound modelling techniques which develop a warm open sound with clarity, detail and deep rich bass. If you’re looking for a super versatile, stylish and modern radio system with all the retro charm and convenience of a classic radio, then the REVO SuperSignal radio system could just be the ticket!
