We’re all used to soundbars by now. Super compact home cinema, perfect for smaller spaces… or simply for those who don’t want their living spaces cluttered up with cabinets and wires. The fact of the matter is, a decent soundbar will do the job… and do it very well. There are new innovations and new releases all the time (it’s proven to be a popular venture) but there are a few firm favourites that keep hanging on.

Take, for instance:

The Q Acoustics Media M4 Soundbar. It’s been around for a little while now, and only seems to get better with age. It’s been a real critic pleaser from the get-go, standing out upon its initial release for one simple, reason – while most soundbars are designed to enhance the audio of film and TV first and foremost when it comes to music, a little something has to give. This means that – in our opinion – your average soundbar (yes, even many of the more recent additions) won’t handle music quite like a real hi-fi system could. Q Acoustics decided that this simply wasn’t good enough.

The M4 was designed to handle both music and movies in equal (and excellent) measure, and was among the first to do so. The inclusion of AptX is a pretty frank testimony to this fact – Q were serious about the M4 being used as a serious streamer very early in the soundbar game.

It’s very easy to set up and to use, and the sound really is something very special. This is down to a number of things, including the BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) drive units which provide outstanding sonic performance dispersed over a wide area, ensuring that no matter where you sit (or indeed stand).

The subwoofer was brought inside, so this soundbar was and still is a fantastic way of discreetly bringing big, detailed, hi-fidelity sound into the any sized space… for a notably low price!

That’s right, your music, your movies and your mind could all be blown in equal measure, for the princely sum of £299. This makes it one of our best value soundbars of all time… as well as our most popular under £500. Ever.

So far the most popular over £500 has been the Yamaha YSP 2500 which was recently upgraded to the YSP 2700, which is the kind of route you go down when you have some serious money to spend. However, if you’re interested in great value sound for a great value price (and something you know has stood the test of time) the M4 is certainly worth your consideration.
